Ok, ck - did you mail a copy to each: ICM, Elliot Webb, Gendler, and Mark Gordon?

I sent the petitions to the two of them via ICM and one to Mark Gordon Co. if I recall correctly. I'll check back on that, and edit here if that's wrong.

Time I contributed something positive. Reaper S1 is aired on Pro7. That is German program which is also carried by cable providers outside Germany and viewed in eastern and central Europe. Being German program it's dubbed into German so viewers in Austria and parts of Switzerland view it in their natural languages. In addition lots of people in neighbouring countries watch this program as well and would promote it via worth-of-mouth that it's good if aired in their countries in their languages as well. That means there is a market in Europe for it, specially as networks more or less automatically buy all additional seasons after first one they aired (unless ratings really, really suck) if for no other reason than preventing competition from buying it and stealing their viewers. Also as it is aired in Germany Austrian networks (TV not cable) might buy it as well. Also, AFAIK, these shows are not sold network-to-network so Reaper relocating elsewhere would not make a difference Worth mentioning as additional incentive when contacting networks www.prosieben.de/spielfilm_serie/reaper/ (in German)

Okay, I need a name. "Reaper Campaign"? "CW Reaper Campaign"? "Save Reaper"? It should be specific (so that people can immediately tell what it is by glancing at the url and/or title), yet short.

<blue screeches to a halt because she's just been reminded of the smaller picture and not the bigger one> I really need Bret's info. Guys, I really think our number one priority right now should be figuring out what *happened*. If we don't know where it all went wrong, we won't know how to fix it - or if it's even in our power to do so. pace is absolutely right that we can't force Bret Harrison to stay in a role he's lost interest in, and if that's the reason the deal fell through, we just have to accept it. However, it seems very odd to me that he would want to get away from a starring role with nothing else lined up to take its place, so maybe we're jumping to conclusions. I think we should focus our efforts on contacting anyone who might be able to explain what happened in the weeks leading to this. Then we can decide if, and how, we're going to fight it. Here are my thoughts as to what the problem seems to be: 1. The CW affiliates want the show. 2. ABC Studios wants to do the show, but not without Bret. 3. Bret has opted out of the show. As to #3, we have conflicting stories, but remember - nothing from Bret himself. The one story I *will* mention is Nick's throwaway that Bret left "not because he wanted to, but because his agent wanted to keep him employed." I am thinking at this point maybe our strategy should be to: 1. Support ABC and ABC Studios not to give up Reaper, and to re-offer a contract to Bret. Most important - to do it SOON. 2. Support Bret (and actually, at this point probably all of the cast, and maybe even some of the crew) and encourage him/them to re-sign with the show if offered. 3. Support the CW affiliates (and/or cable) so that if successful with 1 & 2, then if/when ABC gives them a contract for the show, they will sign it immediately. ...and oh yeah, do something about DVD sales. If you want the show to live I suggest contacting the creators and finding out what could be done. I'd pick something realistic: How to get it syndicated and/or DTV movie and ask them to help you gather troops around it.

And I'm not sure how this helps, but as long as I've got this free trial to IMDB Pro, Lionsgate is the distributor for the DVDs, but that may only be in the U.S. You don't need IMDB Pro to know that Lionsgate distributes the DVDs. Lionsgate is an huge distributor. At least 30 of my favourite shows and movies have been distributed by them in the last couple of years. They're moving up in the film and retail world and if there is anything they can do, you should try them now.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this. What addresses? If you mean TV stations that carry them outside US that would be pointless. Foreign TV stations are not going to petition US stations to renew Reaper so they could buy it at some later time, specially as things are still not clear who exactly should they contact. But for fans Germany would be best bet. Biggest market by itself and German stations are watched in other countries by people with German as their second or third language. I'll see what I can dig up, maybe if we get more foreigners writing in, telling people Reaper has solid fanbase elsewhere as well this could help.

Sorry if I was unclear. What I was actually thinking of was what we've been recommending all along: to write the stations so that if Reaper *is* offered, they will be more likely to buy it. I think it might be a good idea to have all that information handy.

Ok, so I just heard that Reaper has officially been canceled. Now is the time for the fans to step up even bigger. There is a huge following for this show. Personally I believe that a movie could be done on this show, even a tv movie. Let the campaigning begin. If we can't have another season of Reaper lets get them to make a movie to wrap it all up. Hell Firefly was on for a handful of episodes and it got a movie. Lets make it happen. I am sending this to many people in hopes of getting thru to the powers that be to give the fans what they want. Its time for us to stand up and go full force with this movement. Send messages to all parties involved in the show. Do not let this show fade away because the CW execs had their heads up their asses.

German Reaper Fan here. I remember one show where German fans saved a show: Baywatch. It was already dead and done with and than it made a huge success in Germany and they CPR'd it again. Reaper is on Season 1 on Free TV and Season 2 on payTV. Free TV is dubbed, PayTv you have the option of watching it either in English or dubbed. I have to admit though, that if you've heard the original the dubbing sucks. Anyway, theer are tons of German fans that just started watching Reaper. It airs here Monday nights and reruns Sunday late afternoons. Currently even though I don't enjoy watching the german Reaper version I have my TV running on Pro7 to get the ratings in. This is the online Contact form to contact pro7: www.prosieben.de/service/kontakt/tv/kontakt_tv168.php?param1=¶m2=weitere%20SerienI will try to find a mailing address soon. To let them know that there are fans in Europe that do/will watch it so there is a real chance of series being sold to other countries if it continues. I'd do it but I don't speak enough german to make a coherent post and I don't like using online translators

Virtue2 forwarded me a copy of her email she got last week and said I could put it up. From: Doug Finck [mailto:dfinck@mycwportland.com] Sent: Monday, June 01, 2009 11:30 AM To: Pam Subject: Re: The Reaper Hi Pam, Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure there's any way you'd be able to watch our station since you live in Yonkers, but that issue was rendered moot by a letter we received from Disney this morning. Disney, which is producing the new episodes of Reaper, announced this morning that the episodes have been sold to a cable network and will not be available to broadcast stations. If you have cable or satellite you will be able to watch the new episodes starting this fall (I'm sorry but I do not know which cable network will carry Reaper, Disney has not announced that yet). I wish we could have carried Reaper, it's a fun show that we enjoyed and we'll hate seeing it go to a competitor!
Thanks for your interest in our stations, Doug Doug Finck General Manager WPXT-TV (The CW) 4 Ledgeview Drive Westbrook, ME 04092 207.774.0051 x155 207.774.6849 (fax) www.ourmaine.comFrom: "Pam" To: <wpxt@ourmaine.com> Sent: Mon, 1 Jun 2009 09:11:27 -0400
Subject: The Reaper
I live in the NY area and have read that The Reaper may be picked up by your station and hopefully new episodes to follow. I am an avid fan of The Reaper and hope that I will be able to pick up this station locally. Thank you for your great taste in choosing to air Reaper. Your station shows that you know what the PUBLIC wants to see. The Reaper has a huge following and from what I read, their popularity is global. Thank you again. Pam

Okay, well since I'm not really sure who the above email goes to, I wrote this: Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing in regards to a situation with ABC Studios production of the former CW show, Reaper. I hope that you can help. On May 21st, Hollywood Reporter reiterated an earlier report that said that while the CW was not picking up Reaper, ABC Studios was still in talks to sell the show to syndication - most specifically, the CW affiliates for air on Sunday nights since the CW network dropped it. Our fandom decided to write the CW affiliates. We received many enthusiastic responses from them saying yes, they were interested in purchasing Reaper. They went on to say that ABC had contacted them, but as of yet they had not received a contract for Reaper. A copy of all the responses are listed here: reaperdmv.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=276&page=3#7417 We forwarded copies of all the responses to Yani Chang, Media Director for Reaper at ABC Studios. In addition, we contacted the Tribune and Sinclair groups, as they own several CW affiliates. Not withstanding all the rumors that ABC still wanted to sell the show, Tribune was interested, etc., etc., on Monday, June 1, one of our members, Pam, received a response back from Mr. Doug Finck, General Manager of WPXT stating that Disney had informed the affiliates that Reaper had been sold to cable, and would no longer be available for broadcast (we also have unconfirmed reports that other affiliates received the same letter, but Ms. Roth's is the only one I have available). I am forwarding that response to you. Also, Jenny Wade twittered the following on Tuesday, June 2nd: www.cliqueclack.com/tv/2009/06/02/reaper-90-likely-to-live-on-at-syfy Three days later, on June 5th, we received word Reaper was canceled, and the cast and crew were formally released from their contracts. Needless to say, we are all in a bit of shock. Is there anyway to find out what happened? Why either contracts were never offered to the CW affiliates, or why the cast and crew was let go despite the show being sold? IMO, the timeline does not make sense. If the rumors are true that Bret Harrison and Tyler Labine were let out of their contracts during the week prior to June 1st, and state they had no knowledge of any contract, then why did ABC continue to sell the show? For that matter, why would they not tell Mr. Harrison and Mr. Labine that the show was sold, and they didn't need to get out of their contracts in order to find other work? I still firmly believe there is a market for the show - particularly in syndication to the CW affiliates. Despite the news that the cast and crew have been let go, our fandom is *still* very much active. We are first trying to see if this situation can be rectified, and the cast and crew re-signed immediately for a 2009/2010 Season Three, by campaigning harder than ever to ABC, ABC Studios, Yani Chang, Sharon Liggins, and Ambir Sniezko. Bret Harrison, Missy Wise, Jenny Wade, Rick Gonzalez, and Ray Wise are not yet contracted to new jobs, so it is possible to re-sign them if action is taken quickly. As you can see from the affiliate responses, losing Tyler Labine was not an issue, as many told us they would purchase the program without him. Thank you for any help that you can give in this matter. Sincerely, Tara reaperdmv.com PS - If you would like to look at the unconfirmed version (I have only given you the confirmed version) of what when on behind the scenes, industry insider Nick C. has them all up at his blog. This details the actions that have been recorded since the May 22nd (the day after the CW officially passed on Reaper) to June 7th (2 days after it was announced the cast and crew had been let go).: nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/05/22/reaper-to-live-on/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/05/23/reaper-future/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/05/25/message-from-jenny-wade-actress-on-reaper-nina-demon-lover-of-ben/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/05/27/reaper-decision-to-be-delayed/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/reaper-fans-email-spike-tv/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/06/01/reaper-still-lives/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/06/02/reaper-saved/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/06/03/reaper-dead/ nickctv.wordpress.com/2009/06/03/reaper-dead-2/

Okay, well when we move onto more long-term goals, I want to see if we can't organize it here: savereaper.wikia.com/wiki/Save_Reaper_WikiIf it doesn't work, it doesn't work (like I said, I have an idea on how to organize things, but I'm not that great at coding the place so I'll need to work on it). The reason I kinda like the wiki is because that way we can probably get on the Reaper Wikipedia (which is where most people will be going when trying to find Reaper information), and I can *definitely* put it up at the Reaper Wiki - which *is* already listed at Wikipedia. I think it's kinda a good idea to have an off-site place, and one with a specific google-able link. I did something similar to this when we did the Save the Junkie, Save the World campaign, but I think this will end up being a bit more detailed than that (and probably without the "send something in" theme). www.freewebs.com/savethejunkiesavetheworldETA: And BTW, if you haven't seen Reapersite's posting, check it out: Or as cko put it: "Charles in Charge is Our Role Model. Our Hope, Our Beacon of Optimism."
