I'm not quite sure what this is, but I *so* wish it was our DVD cover instead - even with the weirded out hands.

That's a much nicer cover. It looks like some German homemade cover for people who download and burn their own eps. You can print that out and have a professional looking pirated package.

That is nicer, I agree. The thing that gets me is why cant they get the logo right!? Honestly...it should be the most basic and easy thing to do! Freakin Lionsgate...they better have changed it.

I know that we're a little angry because we worry the fugly cover won't sell, but setting that aside for the moment; I don't see nothin' wrong with buying the DVDs and then making yourself the bootleg case. Just aesthetically speaking.

What we need to do is print large batches of that cover and then sneak stealthily into every area DVD store and tape it over the crappy one on the shelves. Are we not fans?

I hope everyone pre-ordered because Amazon's price for the DVD went up. I've never seen that before, but it was $27.99 when it first was offered (I pre-ordered at that price) and now Amazon has it for $35.99. That's a big increase -- almost list price. I don't know why they raised it but let's hope it goes back down. I'm glad I locked in, hope others did too.

And I thought I saw this somewhere else but I can't find it now, but here are some specs for the bonus features:

All 18 episodes are spread across 5 discs with the following features:

Anamorphic Widescreen
English DD5.1 Surround
English and Spanish subtitles
Deleted Scenes
Audio commentary with cast and crew

ETA: And by the way, I notice that only 6 people provided reviews on Amazon saying how much they love the show. Thank you to those other five (yeah, I'm one), but we have over fifty members here and countless lurkers, come on and help us out by posting an amazon review. Help sell the DVDs and create that buzz people!

Here's a detailed review of the DVD set with some screen grabs, including one of the main menu. Unfortunately, it sounds awful, the "extras" are a huge let down and the packaging is only slightly better than hommade. Still want to own these eps, but don't expect much more than that for your money.

The DVD set itself was not particularly inspired though with minimal extras and only a slight upgrade in audio/video from the standard definition broadcast, forgetting that more people are watching such shows in HD than ever before and might want to keep it in an equally impressive Blu-ray (not available at this writing) for their collections.

Extras: The main extra was an audio commentary with the creators of the show, Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters, and Deborah Spera (along with a mostly sleeping baby) as they discussed some of the behind the scene issues that came up with the show, from the location problems to casting to getting Kevin Smith signed on to assist. While it was generally a cheerleading effort, it did provide some insights as to where the show could have gone and where it should pick up next season, I just wished some of the cast could have been included in the effort. As an aside, the back cover lists that there are commentaries, the plural of the term, but only one exists on the entire five disc set. There was also a very short gag reel and set of deleted scenes but neither really did a lot for me, each found on the fifth disc of the set and lasting under ten minutes. The paper insert did give a short description of each scene for those that care, but did not provide any information such as air dates, episode directors or writers as has become increasingly common on such sets.

Yeah, the Socks thing bugged me, particularly since he seems like a fan of the show. But it was a great article overall, he seemed very supportive and recommended the set despite its flaws and the price (which has gone up significantly since I pre-ordered which is unusual). I hope it helps to sell it.

Do we want to take the price-hike as a good sign? I'd like to think it's because Amazon saw how good the pre-orders were going and decided they could get more for the DVDs. Or maybe they originally thought it wasn't going to sell too well, and had set the price too low.

Or they are producing less copies and need to charge more to make up for it. Sorry to be a downer. I really don't know if a higher price is a good sign or not, I hope it doesn't discourage more sales.

Another good review. This one from NewsOK (as in Oklahoma):

Criminally overlooked in its first season, "Reaper” delivers devilish fun in a hybrid of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer”-style monster hunting and broad potty humor. The surprise comes as "Reaper: Season One” builds on its mythology and the depth of its characters.

"Reaper” benefits from first-rate guest demons (Patton Oswalt and Michael Ian Black have choice roles) and an open-ended finale that hints at major developments for Season 2. But Wise’s oleaginous devil is the best reason to watch. He plays Beelzebub as part white-collar criminal, part ’50s game show host. With a pilot directed by Kevin Smith and tons of geeky laughs, "Reaper: Season One” is so goofy, it’s scary.

Did you check WalMart? I'm having mine shipped from Amazon so I haven't checked in stores. You may need a place with a big selection. I'm surprised Best Buy doesn't have it.

Probably best. Amazon has it for $29 right now with free shipping and no tax. Can't beat that.

So there I was last night, chatting madly with some of you and others around the country about the election results and speeches as they unfolded, and later with evilalex about the DVD extras and hoping mine would come soon...and this morning I saw on the counter the package from Amazon!
