Wow. That's a new angle. Well not new, but I hadn't heard of this controversy related to the show. Positive article otherwise, with some charming terms (cultural differences!)
Where I live the big mountain is called Mt. Diablo. They have a marathon (or whatever) called Devil Mountain Run. Someone wrote in to the local paper to say it was a dangerous name because when you speak the Devil's name, you call him to you. I mean, freedom of religion and all, but...I'm glad I'm an atheist. That kind of thinking would be too hard to maintain.

I stand by my statement when the show premiers: if anything Reaper is a cautionary tale. And it's a comedy. So get over it.

And The Devil already said God wins. I think it was very clever to point that out in the pilot. The Devil is always shown on the show as subordinate to God.

And that topic is, is Reaper an instrument of Satan, spreading darkness and evil throughout the land, or is it merely a television show with no agenda? I would argue (as I did above) that the message of Reaper is not only not evil but is in fact a positive and good one. The Devil certainly ain't the hero, no matter how suave and funny we may find him.

Well, spreading darkness and evil throughout the land is positive and good. Plus, the Devil is a hotty mchotpants.

But if you wanna stay on topic, I will say that you know, theyre way off 'cause the show isnt about satanism and animal sacrifices and stuff... but as to that other statement you made... I think Reaper presents The Devil in such a sympathetic way sometimes, that he isn't really the antagonist. It's the souls who are. I expect him to just become more and more lovable as the show goes on. So it can be seen as pro-Satan in the way that Paradise Lost was.

He's lovable anyway. I MEAN SERIOUSLY? Who doesn't find a little red man on your shoulder, with a pitchfork and horns cute? You're just sick if you don't.

Yeah, I don't think that Reaper promotes Satan or Satanism. I think it's just a fun show for a good laugh.

And I agree, if anything the show promotes God more than the Devil. Otherwise, why in the world would the Devil care about escaped souls? They'd just wreck more havoc, which I would think the Devil would love.

That? Is an excellent point, weasel. And one, I might add, that supports the "Reaper promotes Satanism" side. ;D
However, I think that's the brillance of the Devil. He's like that old story of the girl who found a hurt scorpion, and picked him up to help him. After she did, the scorpion bit her. As she lay dying she asked, "Why'd you do that? I saved your life!" And the scorpion replied "For which I'm grateful, but you knew I was a scorpion before you picked me up, and scorpions bite."
Kinda like how "The greatest thing the Devil ever did was convince the world he doesn't exist." He's a predator, but he's calculating enough to wait for the best opportunity to strike.

Wow! What an amazing plug from scifi.com! I didn't know they plugged shows on other networks, that's awesome. I hope they do a good job of letting viewers know when the show is returning. I'm just afraid people will miss it.

It's super positive... But was anyone else weirded out by all the mistakes? There were some subtle ones, and some obvious ones, and even the obvious ones weren't necessarily ones you'd make coming late to the show... I mean, why say Cady turns out to be the Devil's daughter? If you were around long enough to pick up on that worry, you were around long enough to see it was knocked out as a possibility.

I just saw that in her latest spoiler blog (of which there was nothing Reaper).

I just remembered about these cool pieces on Reaper from before the summer by Mark Blankenship at The Critical Condition. The second post is about the depiction of Steve and Tony, also great. Pending and I left comments back when. Funny, that was only 3 months ago, but it seems like forever.

That's the guy who pointed out how Reaper can do guy relationships without also dumbing down (or sexing up) the women. I remember thinking ha! 'cuz of how Sam was treating Andi throughout the episode by basically flirting to manipulate and use her to do all his work for him. I really love how those two characters can do that to each other, yet still feel like equals. IE one is not better than the other, if that makes any sense.

Tyler's latest post from the Reaper group at Facebook:
Hey All!! Sorry it has been so darn long since I've been on here. Busy boy these days. I was shooting my new flick and busy getting another one into the Toronto international film festival. No big deal, only the 3rd largest in the world. Whatevs. Anyhoo, the second season is going swimmingly well. The story lines are wicked and focus primariliy on the mythology of the show. "Is he the Devil's son or isn't he?". "Did his mom bang the devil? ". "Can you have a relationship with a demon or can't you?". These sort of things are cropping up all over the show. I am genuinely ecstatic about the new season and I know you will be too. New characters popping up all over too. Cool ones. Trust me. If you all have a chance please go check out my facebook group for "Control Alt Delete", that's the movie going to Toronto. It's my first lead in a film and I made it with my brother. Could use your support gang. Thanks. Keep you posted about Reaper season 2!!!
All very exciting stuff. Go mythology and the angsty drama it provides. And the new characters are cool.

You're probably all discussing this in spoilers but since we follow TwoP spoiler rules here (or try to) and this was released by the CW, I'm linking it here for the nonspoiled among us -- New pics from the set! And according to the article, actual interviews are to come so stay tuned. *spoilers follow. Highlight to read* Hmm, wonder what the police station set is for? Another portal perhaps?
And I wonder what he means about the Devil and Sam's relationship changing. I kind of liked it the way it was -- paternal laced with peril. What might they change it to? Would they crank up the paternal or crank up the peril? Blue's note: Edited to add spoiler font until we know for sure.

Actually pace, that's NOT released by the CW. It's the CW Source, which is unofficial as far as I can tell. So those are spoilers still I think. I'll do some more checking on it. And yes, I've got it linked in the Spoiler section. ETA: Aw damn, it's that Jason C. guy who does all those dumb interviews and tried to get sell his soul to Ray Wise. I really don't know if they're spoilers or not. It seems they're more Supernatural-friendly. Do we have any TWoP Supernatural people who can tell us how the CW Source is treated in their forum? ETA AGAIN: Damn. I need to bleach my eyes now. I just did a search at TWoP, and Supernatural puts the articles in Media, but lists it as spoilers then goes to the spoiler threads to talk about it, and Supernatural puts it in Spoilers and goes to talk about it in the spoilers thread. That doesn't help, people! And we didn't have the issue at our Reaper board. I'm thinking the CW Source is a lot like SpoilerFix, only with video.
