What the heck is block-quote? I've never seen that anywhere. Only option I see is quote.

The single arrow, next to the youtube icon? Indents your quote but doesn't shrink it or put it in a box.

cko, I always thought that it was cute that James Franco said he prepared for Pineapple Express by making out with Spicoli. Thanks for The Washington Post article, very interesting. Also, new Dexter icon! Thanks for fixing my quote, Blue. I knew it looked wrong but I didn't see the regular quote option. Thanks! It's nice to be back, it's been so crazy with Christmas and my birthday (December 23, so that only adds the the busyness), that I've barely had time to get online.

Ohh, Dexter and Miguel. That was such an amazing thing. I've rambled a bit about that in the tv thread. Can I swipe the icon to use at LJ? And happy late birthday, yours is just one day after mine. We have lots of December-January birthdays here, it seems!

Sure (though I should note that it wasn't made by me), I think that I found it at community.livejournal.com/dexter_icons/ You should check it out if you haven't before, it's got a great selection. Happy late birthday to you too! ;D

Thanks for fixing my quote, Blue. I knew it looked wrong but I didn't see the regular quote option. No prob. I never realized that the buttons are so odd. To be honest, I always write the code in myself using fast reply, so I never really look at the options on the reply screen too often. Happy belated B-Day!

Just watched Iron Man, wow, terrific movie! RD Jr is great and the tech is fun. Little heavier than I'd expected, what with all the war/warlord themology. Excellent to watch! And...that was Jeff Bridges??? He's so good! Oh, I love sitting around watching DVDs on a weekday. Back to work tomorrow, alas.

Oh yay I'm sure you know my absolute love for Iron Man and RDJ. I can't wait for IM2. Best superhero movie ever. Tony Stark rocks.

Wow, when is 2 supposed to come out? They set up nicely for it at the end of 1. I can think of some things I'd like to see different in the next; such as, while I like G. Paltrow generally, I didn't think she was right for this role. But minor nitpick, of course. I'll be in for the sequel(s) for sure.

Gwyneth will be back. They'll all be back with the exception of Terrence Howard (Rhodie). They cast Don Cheadle in his place which is going to be an adjustment. I like Don, but in my mind Terrence is Rhodie and they look nothing alike. I hate recasting.
Iron Man 2 comes out April 30, 2010.

It's not as far as you think. Should have spoilers this spring as they film! And if you're really jonesing for more RDJ as I always am, he's quite busy in the meantime. The Soloist comes out this March and Sherlock Holmes in November, so no lack of RDJ this year, he's keeping his stock high.

I saw The Times of Harvey Milk, it really is excellent. I was also surprised about how many scenes in Milk are direct recreations of real life events.

And, he won Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year! Great photos, too, on later pages. NPH is #25; Facebook is #20. James Franco is #13. Serena and Blair from Gossip Girls are #4! Oh, God, these lists. ETA: Oh, cool, beatrix, glad you liked it, and that it works well having seen Milk. Now I want to see Milk even more.

I'm extremely pleased for RDJ. He had a hard few decades, it's nice to see his talent save his life finally and give him the recognition he's always deserved.

Saw Valkyrie last night (Tom Cruise movie). Very well done, amazing cinematography and locations, excellent acting by all, including Tom, who is apparently getting younger and younger again and looks good. Really suspenseful and nail-biting, like other good WWII thrillers. But about 3/4 of the way through, sitting on the edge of my seat, it hit me that I of course knew how it was going to end, and the rest of the movie became a total drag.
Not a great date movie, either, IMO.

cko, my uncle saw Valkyrie and he absolutely loved it. Now he keeps telling my how I have to see it, so I'm hoping to catch it eventually on DVD.
I just got home from seeing Doubt, which I thought was great. The performances in it are phenomenal. One scene was just Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman talking, and I was on the edge of my seat. The only annoying thing was: a few people in the theatre kept laughing the whole way through it. Seriously, who the hell gets giggly during Doubt?

Hmm, beatrix, Valkyrie on DVD would be better in some ways, but you'd miss one of the good things about the film, which is the epic spectacular element. I can see how people would like it, for sure. I did most of it. And off-topic for this thread, but did you see that Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter got married in real life? Will that be weird for them to play brother and sister after this? They do have great chemistry, so I guess I can see it....

I did see that, it will be kind of strange seeing them play brother and sister in S4 knowing that they're married.

The big thing for me will be no one has to hear me giggling during the Nazi movie, because I know I won't be able to help it.

Thing about Dating, more movies. I think I've seen more theater movies this year already than I did all of last year. And it's WORTH IT! because Slumdog Millionaire is an amazing film. Sad, funny, tragic, uplifting, gritty, beautiful, edgy, pop, stunning, sappy, charming, chilling, heartwarming. Fantastic music. And yet again, not sure I'd call it a great date movie. Because I was so enthralled after, I really didn't feel like making small talk. Which perhaps says more about the date than the film.

I have to agree. Just saw it. Excellent. I rarely run out and see movies on recommendations because I know tastes vary so much (and I've hated so many movies that others have raved about) but if I saw one movie that way, this just seemed like the one. Glad I went.

Yay, pace, I'm so glad! Yeah, I usually don't recommend movies for the same reason. But this one I couldn't not gush about. Because it's really so indescribable and I want people to know that what you might be thinking of it is so different from what it is. Or, it is that, but a million other things too. See, like I said, indescribable. My friend was able to describe it pretty well though. Definitely a spoiler comment. Slumdog was a kaleidoiscope. The resiliency it took to survive (let alone thrive) was breathtaking & the bond between the brothers -- ranging from betrayal to sacrifice-- was inspiring, too. What a powerful reminder to be grateful for all that's good in my life & and not get (too) buffeted by the bad!

I thought the storytelling device they used was very clever. The way they used the story of his life to show how he had acquired the answers to all these questions through challenging life experience. It had a lot to say about the class system and prejudice too.

That actually bothered me a little. It just smacked of an obvious plot device. While I understand why they did it that way, it was a little too contrived. Still, I did enjoy the movie. One of the best that I saw last year.

Oh, L&B, you just pointed out something that I actually loved about the film. It was both gritty and contrived. I liked that particular device, and all the other aspects of that nature. (Avoiding detail here, obviously.) Plus can I gush some more about the look? Even the ugliness was beautiful. Sigh.

Amazing screencaps from The Half Blood Prince at this LJ comm. Wow the kids are really getting all grown up. I love the Weasley's joke shop. Ten pages of comments to that post, wow. I think they've already started filming Deathly Hallows which is weird and a bit sad as well.
