You know what, I just realized that dog does look like Darth Vader! Hope she's doing okay out on the town, Craig. Bet she misses you. And, I have no updates except I've had to postpone everything until after the New Year b/c of this little cold I seem to have. Too bad, I got invited to a reunion of the LA punk band X, whom I love. This is one of my favorite songs of all time: 4th of July. More relevant to most of you, probably, lead singer Exene Cervenka has a son with Viggo Mortensen. And, all dating pushed off to the New Year. Immediately after. Hope everyone has some peaceful times the next few weeks. Or, wild partying, whichever you prefer. The days are getting longer, woo hoo! |

Any Jeopardy fans on the board? On Friday one of the categories was Famous Rays. I was hoping that Ray Wise would be an answer but he wasn't. I think he would be a great contestant on Celebrity Jeopardy considering his film and Tv background.

I figure this would be where I'd complain, as good as any. The SpoilerTV idiot was at it again today, stealing my content. I transcribed a whole interview and what does he do? He lifts it. Then when people call him on it he posted this nugget: "Until the owner of KS unbans the users they have banned for posting links to our site, until the owner of KS allows users to link to our spoilers without the posts being deleted. Then we will start to link back. They started this sillyness so it's up to them to end it. Every other site on the net that we use we credit properly. It's only KS that we have this problem with. So maybe you should take it up with them." These were my responses (since deleted): "The users who were banned from KryptonSite were banned because they were all sock puppets of YOU with the only intention of promoting SpoilerTV. They received warnings before being banned and kept going with it. Those screen names - maryseymour, xymox, and who knows what else - ALL do the same things across the Net in promoting SpoilerTV. And they all have the same IP's so they are the same person over and over - and that person is likely you. If you want to advertise on KryptonSite, pay for it. It is clear in the KryptonSite forum rules that we do not link to spoilers from other fan sites. If people cannot follow those rules, they are banned. So, the banning of those users is completely justified. I have asked you personally to not post material from KryptonSite without a link. If you cannot do this, DO NOT STEAL CONTENT FROM THE SITE. Just like I will not allow people to post content from your site on mine. I will grant you that respect. Also, I am by far not the only one to have issue with your stealing... so don't pull that crap. If I was the only one with an issue with you you wouldn't have all of the disclaimers above the comment box.  To openly steal content from someone else's site and then try to justify it... it's incredibly lame. Remove the content. It's that easy. Whoa, reapersite, it sounds like you dealt with it well. Sorry we weren't around for the in-person venting! But I'm sure there'll be other opportunities.
My update? We had over 25 people in and out of the house for New Year's. Great fun but I'm glad it's over. At this rate I'll even be glad to get back to work.

Sorry for your troubles. Hope it felt better to get it all out. Unfortunately, stealing info and other material without credit is all too common on the net. Some people even lift whole fics and fanvids and try to pass them off as their own. I've seen that happen. Not a whole you can do but publicly shame the person into behaving or at least leaving you alone.

It's really not that hard though to place a link or say "thanks" when someone helps you out...
My general policy has been if I don't want to link to someone, I don't use their material. It's that easy. That's why I don't allow people to even mention SpoilerTV content on my forums.
I can't believe anyone would be so lame as to copy fics and fanvids. Wow.

Have you tried a cease and desist letter, Craig? I'm sorry I can't help much, but feel free to vent. Personally thanking those members who stood up for you is also a good way to get those people to *continue* to stick up for you. Maybe you can direct pm or email them from SpoilerTV's site? Just a simple "thank you for telling DarkUFO his content actually came from me" is enough. Don't go into more detail unless they write back and ask. Maybe instead of directly transcribing stuff, you can type it and scan it in as a picture file? That way you can put your watermark all over it in case someone wants to steal it? That's one of the reasons we put the spoilers up as pics, so we could at least *try* and control how it got out. That, and it was easier than retyping it. I was also thinking maybe notifying DarkUFO's IP service, but that would be a bit harder. ...is postponed yet again due to illness. Let's hope this isn't a sign for 2009. I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, but with pressure from friends on another board, I made the dating one for last year, so I'm continuing it for this year. Hopefully to start Friday, January 9. Sigh. Oh, and I'm going to try to eschew online dating once more. Unless I have no other recourse., which is quite likely.  by xkcd, again. ETA: Hahaha "in hell" dating. Yeah, right. |

Aw, KSite, that sucks. Would it make you feel better if I dug up some high school yearbook photos of Cassidy Freeman? That's almost news-ish. She was in my brother's class at the high school we went to. I totally didn't believe my dad when he said she was on Smallville until I watched the credits, and then that was really freaky.

...I'll keep giving Updates, so you all can guilt me when I falter. I have another date! With a different person! Go me! This Friday evening. Old friend, I thought of him while I was watching all that football on Sunday as a possible line to a fun-filled Super Bowl party. So, that paid off the painful hours dodging anachronistic beer ads and promos for TV shows I can't imagine anyone watching. Itinerary to be determined, though when I suggested "food, drinks, coffee, or whatever?" he replied "I like all those but most interested in the whatever." So, we'll see what that means. Oh, also for anyone else needs pressure along these lines (I can't quite call it "inspiration") especially someone who said she might think about dating again after the holidays, it's after the holidays!  by sweetscience. |
