Oh, you weren't able to back stuff up before handing it over?

Damn, that sucks. Try to at least force them to give you the hard drive so you can take it to a good repair place to try and save the data.

Oh, you weren't able to back stuff up before handing it over? No, they took my whole laptop. Plus, my CD-Rom was destroyed. There was no way to. I'm currently arguing with them to get my CD back (I sent in the wrong one) and my adaptor. But they've already been sent out for salvage, so it's become a huge hassle.

Yay, glad something is going right for you! I've decided to pull for the Phillies since they have a lot of Bay Area connections: Joe Blanton, Scott Eyre, Pedro Feliz, and Matt Stairs all played here, and Jimmy Rollins grew up here.

Hm, I don't use CD's to back up data anymore, flash drives are easier and all you need is a working USB port.

Now this is cool. Carve a Dr. Horrible pumpkin. From pinkraygun.com. Go here to download a pdf. No, I could never do anything like this. And yes, I am procrastinating on my story. But hey at least this is topical!

That's amazing. I've never carved a pumpkin but I know you need special tools to do something like that. I could never figure out how they do that without it all falling apart. I guess it's just the top layer that's carved away right? It doesn't go all the way through.

I'm asking for your help again. My sisters and I are working on a charity Trivia competition. 100 questions in all categories. But...we're all in the same age range, as are most of the people we're working with. So, do people have suggestions for good trivia questions or general topic areas from your own geographical area or, er, age group? Like, what cartoons or other TV shows were popular when you were young(er)? What movies shaped you at an early age? How about celebrity gossip? Reality TV? You don't have to phrase it in the form of a question; we can form those. All suggestions welcome, but not too obscure, we're not trying to stump people--just appeal to a wide range of players. Thanks!

Thanks! You're in luck, because it just so happens, my cousin published a book for trivia parties. He holds area events and put this book together so people can run their own events. Full of tips to make it fun and questions to use. It's awesome!

*gasp* Oh, thank you, I must check that out! Who knew? I'll let you know how that works out. Meanwhile, I'm still open to random lay people (aka anyone here) giving suggestions.

Look, y'all, I'm still alive! Gasp! Ack! Back from the dead.
cko, I think you definitely need to throw in a Reaper question. Something easy. Maybe like, what network does the show appear on? Or who plays the lead, Sam Oliver? I mean, hey, getting the word out about our show that way can't hurt, right?
Here are a few more suggestions!
Q: What was Doug Funnie's dog's name on the animated Nickelodeon series, Doug? A: Porkchop.
Q: What was the first city visited by MTV's The Real World? A: New York.
Q: What's the name of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's female friend? A: April O'Neil.
Q: In the film The Goonies, what is the name of Chunk's "special" dance? A: The Truffle Shuffle.
Q: Who, more often than not, is the antagonist in a game starring Super Mario? A: Bowser.
How are those?

I don't know any of those! I think I'm too old to offer questions, most of the stuff I know was from the 60's and 70's.

Stinger, I love you! Those are perfect. pace, hoping the book arrives in time. blue, new laptop, go for it!
I will try to sneak in a Reaper question. Maybe a quote from the Devil?

You may have to keep it very generic since the show isn't widely watched. Something like:
Q: On the TV show Reaper, where is the portal to hell where Sam Oliver delivers his vessels of escaped souls?
A: The DMV (on Union Street)

Integrated webcam, wireless and 3 gigs of memory? That's good! Ugh, wish I wasn't so wishy-washy. It's the exact same as my old laptop it looks like, except it has 3 gigs instead of 3, a webcam, and 5-1 instead of the 4-1 of my old laptop. Plus, it's red! RED!

Hey! I just realized I never thanked people for the 'Good Luck' balloon! I still have it pinned up (since it's lost most of its helium) on my wall. It was really sweet of you guys.

Yes, shiny, gaudy, and bad for the environment! Very American. But also heartfelt, and with warmth and the best of intentions. Also very American. Sounds like you're doing great there, happy about that!

I'm not getting the laptop. I can't get accidental coverage if the warranty people buy it (and the guy at tigerdirect.com was quite rude about it). So, it's gonna take a bit longer, since I have to wait for the gift card and buy a new one at Circuit City (where I got my original laptop, and who so far I highly recommend if you want to buy a computer).

Election night is so good for stat geeks. I do so love numbers. I told my daughter the same thing. She's ten and is really into football mostly for the facts and stats. She had a blast watching the returns last night on cnn. All those numbers and charts!

Well, that's over. Sort of. It was fun sharing it with some of you: the whooping, the cheering. The crying we didn't want anyone to know we were doing, I don't know why not. The feeling guilty that we were ogling people's Republican husbands and slamming some people's outfits. Ah, election night. I'm not feeling so happy today...same with everyone I know here. The battle continues. With love, not hate! (Trying.)

Hmmm. This does bring to light the one thing that I'm going to miss: getting to look at Sarah Palin's trophy husband.
Don't worry cko: politics is more a tug-of-war than it is a race, and we're going to pull a whole lot harder next time. Pull harder with love, I guess? I'm from Chicago, so that's not really my thing.

I've joined about a million (strong!) facebook groups on this issue, but the coolest part is the dialogue on various boards, such as the Buffy Meet Market at TWoP, where one wonderful poster talked about this issue with her wonderful grandmother-in-law.
