Pending's gotta check out the second of the two posted. Well, both, but the second is more immediately relevant.

Pic taken at the concert somewhat poorly documents: 1) The beautiful venue 2) The adorable man who danced in front of us that I wanted to flirt with while my date complained. (I mean, complained about the guy dancing in front of us. Not my wanting to flirt.)

...Because I must link this for someone who might need it living overseas. From boingboing: "free downloadable set of papercraft candidate finger-puppets so you can stage your own presidential debates."

My emergency plan RE: the second comic = claiming to have a gun. I'm an American, and a Chicagoan, they'll probably believe me.
To be featured in a YouTube video of my complete mental breakdown, coming this November!

My emergency plan RE: the second comic = claiming to have a gun. I'm an American, and a Chicagoan, they'll probably believe me. You dirty rat, you. At least stand down until you get the Happy Fun Pack. Let's hope that your fingers are doing the Happy Dance, then. (damn edits.)

That statue is in my hometown, Enterprise, Al. Its the only statue dedicated to a bug, I think. We were chatting about it the other night and I sent cko a pic. She posted it. A boll weevil is a bug that eats cotton bolls. We used to grow TONS of cotton in Enterprise back in the day. The boll weevil ate it all one year and forced us to grow peanuts, which have become a major cash crop, what with peanut butter and all. So somebody got the bright idea to make a statue to it, since it forced us to change to peanuts, which paid off I guess. We still grow cotton though. You should chat with us. Its a good time.

Unfortunately I'm as bad at chat as I am on the phone. A bit slow on the uptake when it comes to real time conversation, I'd be boring. But thanks for the history lesson.

And of course the rest of us are simply fascinating, brilliantly conversing about: --Other websites we're simultaneously viewing. --"CW sucks!" --Animal hijinks. --How our sports teams are doing --Dating and non-dating high- and low-lights. ...and of course, Reaper.
And...re: #5, yesterday attended the church wedding of a former co-worker: two women, both African American, so a lovely mix of familiar and unfamiliar traditions, with a healthy dose of the non-traditional. At one point I realized I was flirting madly with the cutest man in the room, who: 1) Is married with a 14-month old daughter. 2) I'd once flirted madly with, years ago, when she was the loveliest woman in the room.
Ahh, I'm loving the 21st century.

Cheerio, mates!
I made it here by googling 'Reaper DMV'! We were only about 7 down. Don't tell me it's old news, it's exciting to me.

Tense-- a day or two before the classes start, and I have a lot of ground to cover. And I'm dead flat broke. I need some of that "sit at a desk and read 90% of the time" work that I can only get from a University.

I need some of that "sit at a desk and read 90% of the time" work that I can only get from a University. When I was in college I worked at the campus post office. You couldn't sit around and read but it was an easy fun job filling boxes and selling stamps. Some good sit around and read jobs -- campus bookstore, library, student union, computer lab...admissions office is good too. Colleges have cushy jobs.

Hey, I resent that! I'm here working late! (...and, chatting online, checking facebook, and posting here.) Pending, great to see you! Don't be a stranger. Though the Britishisms do make you a bit stranger.

No Britishisms as far as I can tell! I always talk funny. The Brits around me are probably thinking it's American slang, the poor chaps.

Shoot, blue, sorry to hear that! Hope you can swing it to get a new one? Miss you--it's weird not talking to you every night. I'm in Salt Lake City...and I feel guilty b/c I'm using my new laptop I just got. It's my first ever...uh, I think I could get hooked on it. The big lifestyle innovation is I can now be online AND watch TV at the same time.
SLC is very pretty, the lake is huge and the mountains are close, tall, and have snow. But the conference messed up my TV viewing, because everything is on an hour earlier here.

Oh that's great news, a new computer! Except I lose everything that was on my old laptop. Good thing I at least emailed *some* things to myself.
