Yay, Iowa!“We have a constitutional duty to ensure equal protection of the law. If awesomely awesomely gay and lesbian people must submit to different treatment without an exceedingly persuasive justification, they are deprived of the benefits of the principle of equal protection upon which the rule of law is founded.” Iowa Court Voids G-ay Marriage Ban, NYTimes.com.

Hey ya'll! Sorry for the AWOLness. I'm on term break, but with a 5,000 word paper that's 100% of my grade coming due in about a months time. I will level with you: it's not going so great... Is what I was saying a month ago, while checking out books on Jungian psychology for my paper on Beowulf. Things have gotten worse since then.

Hang in there, pending! Wasn't there any relief to be found in the Jungian psychology? (I know there isn't any in Beowulf.) 5,000 words. That's just about the length of my Episode 3 Recap. That wasn't 100% of my grade though. Or was it?

Damien or anybody on Twitter? How the heck does that hash-mark thing work? Where do you find ... uh ... tweets with, say, #reaper? I can't even figure out where to ask over there.
I'm in over my head. I knew this day would come.

OMG, I love the haiku one. But the Zero Wing one also comes close to being a favorite.

Some of you will remember I was vaguely interested in this list when it came out last year. We were bummed that Bret didn't even get a mention even though Jake Gyllenhal was #1 (I don't know why that's related but it seems to be), and there were a lot of other genre-type actors. I'm sure there's no way we could get enough votes to have Bret (or anyone else) on Reaper make a showing, but if anyone wants to try, go ahead. Because it's supposed to be Men's Favorite Men, they're asking women not to vote. Click on the pic (yay me). Deadline April 24. Last year, Missy was on the AfterEllen top 100, but that doesn't seem to be up yet. This, by the way, is all in line with my oft-expressed but little heeded theory about the value of promoting the show in the awesomely gay/lesbian viewing community. AfterElton mentions Reaper almost weekly, I think because of Steve and Tony, and the w/w fans can rally a lot of support for a show; witness Buffy.

Hey guys, I'm just posting this to let you know that I'm OK. I think the earthquake was nature's way of telling us that we should stay at home during the swine flu pandemic. Oh well, I'll post later since I'm supposed to be working at home... hehe. Thanks ck for the concern, I've got your e-mail.

Yay, kwy, thanks for checking in. Hope there isn't too much damage. Earthquakes can be freaky. Glad you're doing okay, and working from home is always cool!

I think the earthquake was nature's way of telling us that we should stay at home during the swine flu pandemic. Heh. Lucky for you it just seems to be a "settling" - I mean volcanic - earthquake and not a plate tectonic one. It was pretty shallow, only 35 kilometers under the surface. It measured a 5.8, which is normally fairly strong, but the shake map showed at most light damage.

And freak, I can't get the U of Mexico Heliocorders to come up.

We are covered with mites. Hell, we're covered with mites covered with mites.
On the slightly cooler side, I found out how they figured out the migration of the ancient West Coast coastline. Marine invertebrate fossils! And I could not stop laughing at Paleo Paradoxia - a fossil they have no idea what it is, what it eats, or what family it belongs to.

So this time it really IS life in Hell, not onl-ine, or dating or anything. Guess what I'm doing this fine weekend? Helping to st-aff a 12-hour day, 7 day a week call center fielding phone calls from people who might have gotten their identity stolen due to a criminal hacking incident at my campus. It's not that interesting so I won't link or anything. I'm hoping it'll be like Public Television fund drives, where you see all those people in the background staring at phones that don't ring. But I suspect it won't be.
I'd rather think about being covered with mites that are covered with mites. That are now fossils you can only see with an electron microscope. It's a crazy world.

Hey guys, I've come crawling back! Post-semester, I went to Dublin, got sick, then went to all the "We [Probably] Didn't Flunk Out" parties. Been a long time since I've done anything other than drinking, writing, reading, and repeat. It's going to take me some time to get caught up as well (I'm at that point where I've missed so much the site takes me all the way back to the start of the thread if I click "new".) Aaaaand I'm sort of still under the gun, since my dissertation is now officially underway. So longer than long. I look forward to joining the conversation about episode 8 sometime next year.
Otherwise, happy extremely belated b-day OYM!

Nice to see you, here and at FB. It's just not a season without Pending Party Pics. Would love to hear about Dublin, maybe that's an LJ post? And oooh, dissertation. Well you've got plenty of time, right?
Hey, that's the same as stinger. Except the writing and reading part.

Bleh, it's gonna be a long time before I'm back to LJ. The writing tank is pretty much empty, and I haven't checked Ye Olde friends page in forever. The link is still in my toolbar, but it's mainly ornamental now.

I haven't checked Ye Olde friends page in forever If you do, you can see me philosophizing about the meaning of life! (Short version: There's no 'why.' We're just here.) And pace's awesome Dr. Who fic, which is much more stimulating. What we need is another election to get you going.
