blue and I have been discussing an "introduce yourself" thread/topic, so new people could see it from the main board. Right now the Welcome Thread is under General Board which may not be enticing to people. We get a few new m-embers every day, but don't know anything about them, and not sure if they see our lovely welcomes.
Ideas: (1) make a new category under either the General or "The Rest" Board called "introduce yourself." (If it's just a thread under Chat like the one blue experimented, then it won't show all the time.) (2) Change the name of either of those Boards, or one of the standing categories, to indicate welcoming or introducing.
Wow, I sure didn't explain that very well. Anyway, suggestions? blue says consensus rules unless she doesn't like the result. And, blue, I decided to post this here for feedback, hope ok.

blue says consensus rules unless she doesn't like the result. WTH? You're not supposed to TELL people that! <blue stumbles off muttering to herself about how she needs better minions...>

Either way is fine with me. An easily identifiable Introduce yourself thread is a good way to encourage first time posters.

If no one else feels strongly, blue and I can figure it out some nite. I still like the idea. Related, we're looking at the number of boards/sub-boards and thinking about a tad of reorganizing; she can explain better sometime, and any suggestions welcome.

Oh I love that exchange. When Sam says, "Have you ever eaten anyone?" and Tony pauses for a second and then says "That's offensive." After they walk away Sam shrugs and says "Well, I don't knooow" in that whiny voice. So cute.

Is anybody else getting tired of the Soul/In Hell replacement thing? The effect is cool but the side-effect is uncool enough that I'd be happy without the cool part just to get rid of the uncool. I'm not crazy adamant about it, though, so if no one else is bugged by it I won't make a fuss.

It hasn't bothered me none. I like the whole theme of it.

Yeah, it is bugging me in the posts. I like it a lot in the box, but it's just confusing enough in the 30 most recent, PMs, and whereever else it shows up, to be irritating. Especially since I keep forgetting about it and am all "Huh? In Hell?"
I'm 50-50 on the cool-uncool balance. So...I'm no help I guess.

Blue, about the Sides thread--wondering why it has to have a separate subboard and password. I know it would mean changing some of the posts, and we didn't want it to be "too easy," but I find it a pain to go thru two passwords to get to a subboard to click on a link to go somewhere else.
I forget why we did it that way. I'm mostly thinking of new people. Since we know the sides are a big draw, are we making it too too complicated to get to them? How about if we make the Sides thread stickied to the top of the Spoilers Board with a note "enter at own risk"? Or is it too much of a hassle to change at this point?
And: how about a separate board for Welcome and Pace's poll, so people will see that right off. I really want people to do the poll, at least, and if it doesn't show in the "most recent post" column, people won't know to find it, especially since I just bumped it off with this post. I know we don't want too many boards, but ...

Love the countdown clock! Except...I find myself just staring at it. And, somehow it makes the start date seem further away.

On the main page, should we have
Read: Fallen Angel (moving icon) <------This is what it is right now. Unread: Devil
OR
Read: Devil Unread: Fallen Angel

Are you just wanting a change? Or thinking that the devils will predominate if we swap functions? I will say that the movement of the falling angels is sometimes a little distracting when working on something else, but it does give a "live" feeling to the main board. I'm fine either way.

I was wondering more about dial-up. Do people "read" more or do they leave things unread? What would be the most predominant icon on someone's board - read or unread, and would a moving icon be easy or hard to be that predominant icon?

Speaking of, an irrelevant cake for your 1000th post!
Frankly, I'd rather get rid of those burning folders, which don't seem to add much. I almost did, once, but thought I should check. What do you think of that?
aw phooey sorry ck, lost the cake - blue

QUOTE NOT MODIFY!!!!!
Aw crap! I forgot about that! I was trying to save it for some pics of Quill in the snow.
I think I can change those without adding yet another code. I'll see. Otherwise I'd have to add a code to get rid of them.
What might be a better idea though, would be to up the post counts on them so that they don't burn unless they've got, like, 1000 posts or something. I'll do that for right now instead.

Ha! No problem. There are plenty more at Cake Wrecks. But I want to see the ones of Quill in the snow! And, cool on the burning folders; thanks.

I'm not sure what you want fixed about the Soul/In Hell thing, so I need a bit more specifics (examples). Unfortunately, if it's a single word it will always change - ie "for-um" will always be "portal" but I can change "fan portal" back to "for-um" Any feedback on this?

Any feedback on this?[/quote]
If you're referring to the devil that appears when there are new posts in a forum, I like it the way it is now. Fallen Angel for old threads, Devil for new posts.

RE: word switches, that's a good start. The one I notice most (besides "remember") is saying "I'll be online later" and it comes out "in hell" but sounds like that can't be fixed, so that's ok.
RE: Devil/Angel::unread/read, if you're not logged in, just a visitor, or caught up on threads, it's all Angels. So I vote for changing it, so Devils would proliferate, if we're worried about the Angels being slower to load.
ETA: oh, pace commented while I was slowly composing this...so, I don't really feel strongly either way.
you don't need to split the words anymore. ;D ~Blue

I added: I'll be online I will be online you be online Dammit! That's a 50/50 split! I always have a mix since I only really use the "last 30 posts", so I'm of no use - though I was kinda leaning towards devils being the predominant icon.

Okay, I don't care then. I didn't realize that we wanted it to have mostly Devils for those who weren't logged in, or that the Angels took longer to load. Those are fair considerations. I just thought the transformation in the direction of Fallen Angel to Devil made more sense. The other seems backwards to me.

Revamp of the news headline thing is cool; also the RSS Feed from LJ, great! Will be interesting to see what happens with that.
And, like the change of the LJ to Reaper DMV News; good way to distinguish between there and here. Catchy. Now if only we had news...

I'm totally torn on the new header; it looks great (the bit of Tony drawing a circle around Sam is hilarious), but I hate and fear all change.
