Not gonna tell. It's more fun if he just kind of--pops up on you. Unless you're at work. Which you won't be, I imagine....lucky.

Not sure where to post this, but I'm looking for suggestions. May move this to a thread in the Season One thread-or-whatever-it's-called.
I'm trying to get in the mood for talking about the actual show, especially now it's not playing. I'm already forgetting the various themes, arcs, spec and quotes that I was so interested in, only a few short (!) months ago.
I've been randomly watching different eps, but my mind wanders. And it's harder to get up for writing fic, since the characters aren't fresh in my mind. (At least that's my excuse today.)
Once started, I can ramble endlessly, but ... ideas for a kick-start?

When the Harry Potter fandom still had new books to look forward to, a lot of people would engage in group-readthroughs, where everyone would agree to read a chapter every few days, and folks would volunteer ahead of time to post a summary of that chapter and some discussion questions. And then everyone'd talk it out until the next chapter went up.
We could try doing something like that with the episodes, and it'd give us a chance to write up an episode guide at the same time. Then we (and other people) could refer back to it when we needed to remember what episode the Ted/Josie happened in, or how many episodes Cady even appeared in, or what was the vessel in that one episode...? It'd be a good resource for fanfiction writers.

We really need that, anyway, for posterity. Otherwise keep having to go back to TWoP recaps (hisss) or imDB. Plus it would be our perspective(s).
A whole episode per person seems like a lot, though. Maybe two people could write each episode and then merge? So each person wouldn't have to worry about catching every detail. I also like the thought of semi-live commentary via IM, like Stinger's MST3K idea. Then edit it into something reasonable.
Maybe to start some of us could volunteer for an ep and then just bash away at it. Report back if it's possible or just impossible.
Anyone else have thoughts?

I'm working on summarizing the Pilot right now.
Well, that'd be the advantage of putting it up for group discussion. Then if the "recapper" missed anything, we could go back and add things like "Edit And stinger noticed that the cereal box in this scene said 'Coco Balls'! Adding the comment, 'haha balls."

It's starting to sound like Wikipedia. D'you all know, someone estimated that: ...if you take ..all of Wikipedia, the whole project--every page, every edit, every talk page, every line of code, in every language that Wikipedia exists in--that represents something like the cumulation of 100 million hours of human thought. He goes on to say: And television watching? Two hundred billion hours, in the U.S. alone, every year...that's 2,000 Wikipedia projects a year spent watching television. Or put still another way, in the U.S., we spend 100 million hours every weekend, just watching the ads. It's all part of this guy's concept of cognitive surplus; if you have a time there's also a video. Whiiich is only peripherally (or perhaps integrally) related to Reaper. I'm all in on the recap thing. It addresses my issues, and OYM, what you've come up with so far will be great reading! if you can get past the opening credits, that is.

I thought we'd do a rewatch when the DVDs came out. As for recaps, why reinvent the wheel? Recaps and live streams are out there to refresh your memory, we can just link to them. If we don't want to use TwoPs (which I don't think were all that good anyway), there are the recaps from reapernews.

Just for the fun of doing it? If the TWoP ones were a little cutesy, the reapernews ones are a bit basic. They're ok for pure reference. I slightly prefer tv.com.All the material is out there, I'm just looking for more of a process to hook me back in. Like I said, I've been trying to watch the eps, but it feels like in a vacuum. November DVDs seem like a ways off. I'm up for seeing how OYM fares with the pilot, and if it's like Blue said when she tried, takes an hour to write up the first five minutes!

To me recaps are just a pain but if its your kind of fun then by all means, particularly if you know how to write amusing ones. There are some great TwoP recappers but I think ours sucked. They weren't funny.
As for a way to hook back in, go ahead and start a thread for every episode you watch and discuss. We'll join right in so you needn't be alone.

Now that's reminding me of the year I spent after grad school, doing not much and, because I had a lot of free time, recapping All My Children for my working friends. Now that you mention it, it was a pain! I like the idea of starting the thread and just launching the discussion, too.

I'm just looking for more of a process to hook me back in. Would you believe it's actually TWoP's recaps that are its bread and butter? Those are what draw the crowds in and it's still where the vast majority of the site clicks go to. And based on some of the lines onyourmark provided earlier, I'm quite looking forward to reading his version of the Pilot. ;D

Yeah, "recapping" in this situation is mostly just loose code for "making fun of." Affectionately.
I think the only TWoP recaps I ever bothered to read were the ones for CSI, which stopped a few years ago.

Hey, Blue and I just noticed that the "Most Users Online" got bumped up. The day was yesterday (Friday Sep 5) and the number was 18! Beating the previous number which I think was 14 on August 14. Hooray!

And the BSG ones are insightful, mod skills notwithstanding. A little TOO insightful at times? Half the time I have no frakkin' idea what he's talking about. He's a good writer, but I think all the erudition has (my well-worn theme) driven him insane. It's true about the recaps, though, being the main draw over there.

Don't forget the Onion's tv club recaps! Theirs are a little nerdy, and the recapper has a "I'm done with this show!"/"I take it back, I love this show!" opinion crisis.
