That's nice that he's getting work during his downtime. He's done/is doing a bunch of horror movies too.

Nothing to do with Reaper, but an old short film with Ray from 1976, called "Love in the Hamptons". There is a clip at this link with Ray in it. www.thefirstpost.co.uk/filmtalk,,unearthed-mickey-rourkes-debut-film,74001

I wasn't watching the episode, but my family (who are visiting) were. All being out of context, I couldn't tell if his character was evil or not, but damn, it seemed evil. Even if he was the hero of something, I think it'd take me awhile to stop ascribing evil motivations to his character.

Ray was asked to participate in a celebrity poker tournement in Palm Springs. The event benefit people with HIV and Aids. I think he'd be great at bluffing the other players. The event will take place next weekend.

Much like Robert Di Niro, and Jack Nicholson Ray has superb charasmatic talent for playing Deplorable Charasmatic Ghastly bastard villains. As the devil he is exceptional in every way playing the most abject villain the only and only Abject Grisly Devil. I hate him which is the job of a villain especially when it's a guy playing the Devil. Defenitly has his own style with his magnificent suits, slick back hair, and antagonistic snide comments. Yes he has to be the Lord of all B@stards but he still get's to enjoy looking like a Majestic with his superb suits.
Why was he disgusted with Mike thinking he could charm him? Is he mad that Mike kept getting out of hell yet he was causing colossal misery on Earth which seems like what the devil wants since he is the most nefarious Evil being.

The great thing about this show, to me, is that the characters, especially The Devil, are not predictable in ways you might see on a soap opera or even police procedural. (She's the uptight one, he's the horndog, this is the quirky punky goth lab scientist, he's the innocent cute one.) Because they have the mytharc, and the whole Good? Evil? Average? Extraordinary? thing going on. People are a little complex, unpredictable. Yes, maybe sloppy writing makes people out of character, but I'd almost rather that instead of too predictable.
The Devil wants bad stuff to happen on Earth, but if that was his main goal, he wouldn't have Sam reaping souls! He wants bad people to Suffer for their Sins, and he tempts average/weak people into Sin so the can make them Suffer. He actually does not have a clear Mission, so seems to be working at odds with himself at times. Plus he is quixotic and vengeful. Perhaps this is why, ultimately, he will lose! Of course you could say the same about God, I suppose. These supernatural beings, they are just so irrational.
It's part of what makes Sam's role rather confusing--is he a Good Guy doing the Work of Evil? Is he a Bad Guy because he does Bad Things? But he does Bad Things to Bad People, does that make him Good?
You know, strangely this is starting to make a little sense to me, and people here know that I've been totally unclear on this concept from, like, the middle of Season One.

Ray Wise interview on this podcast! I'll be back later to listen and tell people when in the hour-broadcast he comes on, even transcribe, but I gotta go out for a bit. Damn real life! 27:00-30:00--Little overview of Anthony Stewart Head's role as Uther on the “Merlin.” This BBC-produced series will begin airing in the U.S., June 21 on NBC. That sounds great. 31:00-46:00 Actual interview with Ray by phone. He's AWESOME. Not so much what he says, more how he sounds, so at ease. It was taped mid-season by the sound of it. He has a great chuckle. Talks about playing the Devil v. playing the VP on 24. How he feels playing the role: "It's a great fit." How does he prepare for the role? "Late at night I drink, I use drugs, and invite hookers to the room....no, I steeped myself deeply in the stories...I'm a Devilphile, I watched a lot of movies....There have been a lot of Devils in the last decades, but I prefer mine." What makes his Devil different from others? "I thank my Uncle Louie because he taught me to wear a suit." He talks about working with the cast and crew. "People love me. I'm a Devil for All People." About Sam: "In his own way Sam is special to the Devil, but he has special people all over the planet...Sam seems to have struck his fancy, he wants to spend time with his kid and have some fun with it." --"We got to get the CW off their duff and get them to continue the show." --"The Devil is always there, he's the other half of our nature, really." --"I'm a believer in fairies, so dragonflies are close to my heart." Most looking forward to if Season Three? "Oh just opening up the story...exploring the environs of Hell...let's see some fiery pits." --Who's the jokester on the cast? "Tyler ... or me!" --He has his own CD of "devil music." They play ping-pong on set between scenes. --RE: House Rules "I play a Republican! Of course I'm a lifelong Democrat, so this is one of the most challenging roles of my career." It's quite worth listening to.

Anyone catch Ray Wise in Sunday Aug 8th SyFy movie "Infestation?" Same old Ray, except he was dressed in camouflage and played a survivalist-type father. (Still looked like the deviil to me.) Made me nostalgic for his dark suits and blue tie. Bummer. I really miss Reaper.

I was just coming to post that ck!!!! Finally, we're seeing the results of Fazekas and Butters joining forces with Joss. This is fabulous news. I'm so glad they didn't let that amazing actor slip through their fingers after the tragedy that was Reaper on the CW. I was happy when F&B joined the show and this was why, I was hoping they would cull the cast and use them again.
Now we need to get Jenny Wade in there as an Active. She'd be perfect.

Interview with Joss Whedon at fearnet talks about Ray's character in Dollhouse! Spoiler tagged in case you're phobic but it doesn't reveal a lot. What role will Ray Wise be playing in the new season?
He will appear in episode six, as the head of another house. He will interact with Olivia – it should be very exciting.
Can you talk a little bit about Summer Glau's casting, and what is in store for her character?
The casting of Summer was based on the knowledge that Summer existed. The character was created with the hopes that she would play it – which she is on stage doing right now. She is playing the programmer of another Dollhouse. It's an eccentric part, but hopefully something different than we have seen from her before. The most useful part of that is that the writers work twice as hard to make sure the character really pops because they know the part will be played by someone extraordinary.
Is it safe to assume that Summer's character works at the same Dollhouse that Ray Wise's character works at?
That would be safe.

Weaselsnout found this nice, long interview with Ray at Xtravision, not dated, but we think it's from awhile ago, since it doesn't mention his upcoming stint on Dollhouse. I consider there to be a lot of shout-outs to us; he's pessimistic about a Reaper movie, but does mention it, so I consider it hopeful! For no good reason! Oh, I think it's from August. Anyway, if you're a fan of Ray's, it's worth reading. Plus the writer of the article seems to like Reaper.

I watched Good Night and Good Luck tonight. It's an amazing movie where Ray has a supporting role. He played a real person named Don Hollenbeck. It was strange seeing Ray play a character who was so world weary and depressed.
