As I don't watch AI, this is all good to me. [PSA] If we can get more people to watch Reaper, and less to watch AI as a result, the world itself will be a much better place. [/PSA]

Some good analysis here along those very same lines loandbehold. According to this article, the theory is 90210 and AI draw the same viewers, so Reaper should do better with a different audience. Better than 90210 would have done anyway. Not bad logic. Any of you lot watch AI? I've never seen it in my life.

He's seen the premiere?? No fair! I hope its not as bad as people think being opposite AI. DVR ratings account for something too.

Something to consider:
The Smallville episode that aired last Thursday against American Idol got its highest ratings in weeks, especially in the demos that Dawn loves so much. Dawn is probably considering that Smallville and Reaper have similar audiences, so for once she might be doing the smart thing schedule-wise.
90210 has crashed and burned vs. the 90210 juggernaut. I think it'll be for the best here.
And I wanna see the premiere too *whine*

I think it'll be for the best here. And I wanna see the premiere too *whine* I know I really don't think this is a bad move. 90210 was a horrible lead-in, 8pm may be a better time slot in general. The 9pm competition on any night was killing us. This will keep us away from shows like House, 24, Fringe and all those crime procedurals. Those were a bigger drain. And I really love the fact that the finale is now back in May where it belongs.

I can't really say I'm happy about the move. It smacks to me of just trying to get Reaper out of the way as quickly as possible. AI is a giant in ALL demos, so it will certainly be a stiff competition no matter what. They're just trying to save their precious 90210. Gives me the feeling Reaper is nothing more than a throwaway. Having said that, I wasn't thrilled we were going up against Fringe either. I'm not home at either 8 or 9, so I was gonna have to give up Fringe when Reaper started. Now I don't. Yay! The press release. <sighs in resignation> Read the part about American Idol at the end.

Blue, you're still watching Fringe?
I left a comment:
I try to make a point to leave comments, invites and reaperdmv.com addresses at every blog I find. Hope you guys will do the same.

Yes, a very good suggestion! Reaper needs the "live" audience numbers, American Idle (no I did not misspell it!) does not. So anytime you talk to someone or write about watching Reaper, emphasize the "live viewing" aspect. As noted, Idle is easier/quicker to watch on DVR anyway!

Blue, you're still watching Fringe? HDTV and stubble does wonders to the Pacey hotness. So anytime you talk to someone or write about watching Reaper, emphasize the "live viewing" aspect. <Blue wishes *she* could watch it live. Stupid work.>

Yeah, chatting with Blue while she's watching Fringe is a crack-up; kinda like MST2K. That's all I have to say about Ratings & Scheduling at this time. Oh, except I have never watched American Idol, and good idea on the commenting, pace, I'll be more vigilant about that!

I added my comment to this article and suggest others do the same, and vote in their poll. They are suggesting that CW plans to cancel Reaper. I beg/hope to differ (Disregard the weird headline, I thought they were talking about the show Supernatural when I first read it): Does the CW want to cancel the supernatural TV show?

They should, because AI is 55 minutes of window dressing on 5 minutes of content, and they are wasting their lives. But people obviously aren't interested in what I think they should watch, or (at the very least) BSG would be a blockbuster network show.

I was actually amazed when I saw how few viewers BSG got. Reaper would be a mega hit on the sci-fi network.

Not to mention that those 5 minutes pretty much suck. I'm pretty sure AI debuted during the Bush administration. I truly believe it's one reason the country is in a mess. The two go/went hand in hand.

Just had a thought. We may have touched on this before, but I'd like to get other opinions. I agree that if Smallville gets another season, we are in trouble because we will not fit in on another night. I'd settle for what they did this year, make 13 episodes and use it to replace a failed show. Heck, they can do that every year if it keeps the show going (although Missy probably would not like that since filming would be during Steelers football season). But my alternate thought is move Reaper to Sunday night. Do you think the 2 million or so fans would follow it there? After all, I'm sure the CW would be thrilled with 2 million on Sunday (based on the 1 million or less current audiences). What do you all think? (Sorry if this has been discussed before)

Now that they have their Sunday nights back for programming it's a good option. One of the reasons there was no room for Reaper in the first place was because they were short one night of programming. Sundays should help. I'd like to see it on Sundays personally.

And another link to the TVbytheNumbers site, announcing the new premiere date with some lively discussion about whether this is good or bad for the show, including speculation about Ostroff's motives. From presumably average viewers not unlike ourselves.

I actually can't understand how anyone can watch AI without getting bored out of their minds. It's a bunch of people singing for an hour straight and some judges saying more or less the same things over and over. Booooriiiiing.

I actually can't understand how anyone can watch AI without getting bored out of their minds. I agree, bec, and nice to see you! reapermaniac, I thought we had some information around here about UK airdates, but now I don't see them. We have to consult our many international links, I guess. Get back to you if I find anything...

Reapermaniac you are not alone. We have the same problem here in the USA. It seems like most people do not know that this show is even on the air over here. Out of all of the people I've mentioned it to, I've found one that actually saw it (that person watched the pilot, thought it was funny, but never watched another episode) ... and one that saw the commercials for it, but hadn't watched it. That's why I've been handing out a 4 hour recap DVD of the 1st season to everyone I know.

Nice to come back to the Reaper DMV, cko! I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of me when the new eps start airing.
A ways upthread someone was saying that Sunday might be a good timeslot for Reaper? I just think it'd be funny since it's "the lord's day" and all. Good way to be extra sacrilegious. Mmm... sacrilicious... Ha, the people who are overly concerned about things like that will get their panties in an extra tight knot, maybe they'll protest loudly, thus making more publicity for the show. Muahahahaha!

Chuck getting picked up by CW? I wouldn't want to see that, too close to Reaper in some ways. But I like the idea of CW going all genre. If they wake up and realize that the genre shows they have are really their biggest performers, they could be an amazing all genre network.
