That must have been fantastic, Prince "sitting in" with Stevie? Whew. Only in New York, I imagine. Now that I think, out of all the maybe hundreds of concerts I've seen, I don't believe I've ever seen a single surprise guest star! Seen a lot of that on YouTube, of course.

Okay, so here's a new one. For me anyway. I just got a Friend Invite on Facebook "from" the singer in this band that I am listening to obsessively, put on my iLike whatever, and have been desperately checking their page to see if/when they are playing near me. I know it's just a promotional deal (though of course I'd like to think otherwise) but is that strange? Is it common and no big deal? Do I not accept because it seems odd to have a total stranger able to see what me and my friends and other total strangers that I accidentally friended are up to? Or should I accept, and wait for him to sweep me away on a mad rock 'n' roll tour around the world?

Friend, but expect advertising rather than instant insider status. But hey, advertising from a band you like is basically just an easy way of keeping up on the news, right? Beats my typical facebook drama. I don't outright facebook-stalk, but I tend to overthink people's actions to the degree of intellectual stalking.

I finally bought the MGMT album, and it's really fantastic. I don't know what's up with their music video for "Time to Pretend", other than epically low funding, but it's an amazing song. Definitely lives up to the Onion AV club/VH1 hype.

Thanks for the reminder, pending, I'd "favorited" them on youtube ages ago, and keep forgetting to listen. It *is* Time to Pretend. Which reminds me so much of another era--maybe the 80s? Trippy song, but now I have to look up the rest of their stuff.
Oh, I just found out about this through a roundabout internet way. Okkervil River? "Indie Folk"? From Texas? Maybe yet again I'm the last to know?

I loved this song from the Drunk Scene in the premiere, and randomnation kindly looked it up for me. The Hold Steady, Constructive Summer.
Though I know some of you preferred "The Sugarplum Fairy" from that scene, or "You're the Best Around" at the end.

K, so I've been on a 90's/early 00's alt. binge and have some rec's. The Offspring(pretty much anything, but favorite songs include: Come out and play, pretty fly, million miles away, the kids aren't alright, and you're gonna go far kid) and Bloodhound Gang(songs include: along comes mary, i wish i was queer so i could get chicks, the bad touch, and uhn tiss uhn tiss uhn tiss).

Ooh, love The Hold Steady; my favorite song from them is definitely 'Gotta Stay Positive'. Although yes, I do prefer "You're the Best Around", but that's because it's a classic.

Cool, random, I just checked out Bloodhound Gang and they're a kick. I'll link to this one song, which sounds great, though the video is a little..um.

Classic! 'Bad Touch' will probably always be my favorite of theirs, though 'Lift Your Head Up High (And Blow Your Brains Out)' is a real close second. Tonal shift; I just caved and bought The Arcade Fire's latest, 'Neon Bible' second-hand off Amazon. I've been listening to 'Intervention' for a while, but thanks to this Supernatural fanvid I'm hooked on their song 'Keep the Car Running' too.

Crazy song titles. I'm going to listen to more of their stuff. The Arcade Fire, I listen to them on occasion; they're especially good in airports for some reason. Strangely, my nephew, who typically likes hard rock and parody music (he went through a Weird Al Yankovic phase which got old fast, though the Yoda/Lola one was damn funny) is really into The Arcade Fire right now, because they featured in a crazy skateboard vid he watches. Unusual combination but it works.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Always an uplifting experience. It's my mom's birthday today, so I could use a little uplift. Yup, she was an April Fool, and proud of it!

Bruce and the band were amazing. I know my photos always suck, but I don't care. I can't say it enough, people. See live music. It does something to you, and it's something good. Can't explain it in words though.

A little out of the blue, but Casey and I were talking about this song, which is one of my favorites of all time...I have a thing for Levon Helm anyway.

I've been listening to Lenka since one of her songs got stuck in my head from this commercial I kept seeing during my trip to Vancouver. www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=68630060239&ref=mfI replayed her songs that are on youtube so many times, I just figured I might as well just buy her whole album off itunes. It kind of bugs me a little that she seems to pinch her voice into some kind of "little girl voice". And I'm not usually big on light, bouncey, cutesy, pop-y music. But there's something really catchy and irresistible about all of her songs. Listening to her songs is like being on uppers. With a side effect of warm-fuzzies. Great pick-me-up for when you're feeling a little down.

Is anyone here using Playlist? I'm trying to find music, but the only way I can figure it out is to search, and can't remember the artist or title of song of even *half* the crap I listen to. Is there another way other than just googling it, then putting the info in?

No, blue, I'm "using" imeem, lastfm, that one mark told me about, and also have music on myspace and facebook. Why, I don't know. I went to Playlist just to see, but found myself being tempted to "join" so quickly backed away. Good luck with it, though.
My experience on those other sites is if you start with a few songs, they start suggesting other stuff you might like. Doesn't work if you're really eclectic, I guess.

Listening to the (ugh, like some caveman) radio I caught I nice song that's probably going into my Reaper-themed playlist: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid from the Offspring's new album. Good stuff. They're one of my favorite bands. I just grew-up listening to them... hehe.

What I loved about the Green Day concert is that it was a real rock concert, with loud guitars, fireworks (indoor kind! big sparks shooting upwards! flames! flashes and booms!), crowd dancing on the open floor. Speaking of the crowd, I've never seen such an age-diverse group: people with their young or teen-age kids, hoards of young adults of course, but plenty of people in their 40s, 50s and 60s. And even rocker chicks! I love that. Billie Joe's voice is fantastic, and the last two songs of the encore he did solo on acoustic guitar, from the stage out in the middle of the crowd. Mike Dirnt was super-hip in sleeveless black denim vest and pointed sideburns. At one point they all donned costumes and he put on kitty-cat ears and a tail. MMMM. Tre Cool was, well, tres cool, and the big big beat just penetrated your chest and boomed around. All very therapeutic. I love live music!

...this time the stage version. Great production: they wrapped a storyline around the songs on the album and got a bunch of really talented people to sing, dance, and play their way through it. At the Berkeley Rep, but if it goes out on the road, I recommend you see it!

Oooh, interesting, Kali, can you believe I've never heard that version? Maybe we should have a thread for "Songs that Inspire Me To Think of Reaper." And, I, too, surprisingly like that Black-Eyed Peas song. Alex, I wanted to hear yours, but the video went poof.
