Thanks for doing that, Satanic. It looks like fun. But...I think I need a few more posts before I can join. Because I can't think of where to go with it! Maybe creativity will strike soon. See you over there!

Sweet, see you there, cko. :]
I'm having some of my friends from FF.net head over and join the RP... so there should be some postage soon.

Does anyone think the Devil might call Sam "pumpkin"? I need an endearment like what a parent would call their very young child, and "sweetie" just doesn't cut it. For some reason, I'm stuck on "pumpkin" (actually, it's more "pumpkin pie" but that sounds even more stupid).

No, pumpkin is for a girl. "Sport" is for a boy. He'd call Sam "sport".

...You made me twitch, Blue...
SATAN CALLING SAM "PUMPKIN"?!
Hell... SHIT NO! I'm sorry, but that's just fuckin' wrong in every way possible. He'd totally call him "sport", though. Pumpkin... well, he'd say it if he were being sarcastic, but he's not sarcastic all the time. Remember, "sarcasm is the lowest form of social discourse", and with a tie like that, I don't think he'd be seen being a hypocrite... IN FRONT of people, that is. XD

No, I know he'd call Sam 'sport'. He calls him that fairly often. I need something younger and a bit more endearing. Like what you'd call a two-year old who just got into all of the flour in the kitchen, but just looks too damn adorable to do anything about it - even if the mess will take hours to clean up. Oh well.
And it being boy/girl isn't really an issue. I'm talking about a child so young it doesn't matter, especially from the parent POV. The Devil *is* thousands of years old (if not more), and Sam's...21. Kinda a big gap there. And the Devil does always like to treat Sam like a child. I just want him to treat him like a younger child, only in a *nice* way. The Devil adores Sam.

Skipperdoo? Fudgepop? Jungle Boy? Monkey?

Hmm. Monkey. It's close, but it doesn't yet feel quite right. Maybe some other type of animal? Kitten?

Post by cko on Aug 31, 2008 16:23:07 GMT -5
Not monkey or fudgepop! Skippy is ok, kinda demeaning (not that monkey or fudgepop aren't). Skipper? Boo boo? Like in Yogi Bear?
And..Blue what were you doing up at 4:04 am?
I'll be on later asking for inspiration, too. I'm stuck in both my stories.

Kitten is definitely not gender neutral. Tiger.

Pet names I was subjected to by family members as a small child:
Chief, cowboy, kiddo, puppy, bedbug, munchkin, Hopalong, and a couple varieties of-- this one might actually be useful-- Hobgoblin/Puck/Pooka. They're the same thing, aaaand I think have something to do with the Devil and being a mischievous little bastard. Definitely at least the last part.

Except avoid "Pookie" which has a double meaning to Filipinos; it's a slang term that might be distracting if used.

Oh lord, I can't believe you guys are discussing this... and actually CONSIDERING any of those names...
If you want names the Devil would use then here...
Kiddo, tiger, bud, sport, sonny, little horn (don't ask), stud, hotshot... can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

So I have another idea for a fic that excites me but I need feedback. I always loved those episodes of Buffy where someone has a problem, turns to witchcraft for the solution and only makes things worse, thus learning a valuable lesson.
I want to do something like that here, and I'm tempted to make it a Buffy crossover fic but I don't know if that would gain or limit the number of readers.
But here's the idea.
Title: Sam Who?
Sam turns to witchcraft to seek a way out of his contract with the Devil. He's fed up with his situation and demon Dennis tells him he knows a demon lady that practices the occult and can do a spell to undo the Devil's claim on him. Sam is so desperate he decides to try it out, it beats human sacrifice anyway, this way no one has to get hurt.
Sock and Ben find out what he's up to (Sam tries to keep it a secret) and they're freaked. Ben takes the lead and tries to stop him, telling him its a bad idea to mess with black magic. The spell is designed to make it as though the contract never existed, to erase it from everyone's memory, but as happens with these stories, something goes wrong, the spell backfires and Sam ceases to exist. (We find out later the spell didn't actually go wrong, there's a reason it affected Sam too).
Ben and Sock then need to find a way to bring him back. For some reason, maybe because they were in proximity when this happened, they are the only ones who remember Sam and can't ask anyone else for help, not even Sam's parents because its as if he was never born. They go to the Devil, who tells them that bringing Sam back brings the contract back too as the two things are intertwined like one soul and cannot be seperated. Still, Sam with the damned soul is better than no Sam at all, so they bring him back. That's the painful truth Sam learns, that the contract is a part of him.
So thoughts on this? It came to me in one bang so I have a feeling it will make a fun fic. My big question is should I make the witch Sam visits Willow and thus a Buffy cross fic or should it just be a new random witchdemon? I'm leaning towards witchdemon.
Any other ideas for this story?
ETA: By the way Blue, I'm ready to post my other fic now but since you just posted yours, do you want me to wait a day or two? I know it always seems like we post fics at the same time so I want to give yours a chance to be seen before bumping you down. Let me know, I'm happy to wait.

Ohhhh, I love this. More to say later when I have more time. I guess...Cady, that would be adding too much of a complication?
I was wondering if this would happen. It's weird with you two.

I would go with random witch. It's not like the identity of the witch is important to the plot. I know it always seems like we post fics at the same time so I want to give yours a chance to be seen before bumping you down. Let me know, I'm happy to wait. No, go ahead and post! We are for some weird reason fic sisters, afterall. However - is there anyway you can link to mine when you put up yours at TWoP? I would really appreciate it. I can't yet figure out how I want to handle those situations yet. I'll try and review your fic before I leave. Today is cutting it awfully close for me.

GRRRR!!!!! I can't post my fic!! LJ has a new Rich Text Editor and now my LJ cuts don't work. I tried to put the fic behind a cut and it won't cut the text, it cuts the first few sentences only and leaves the rest visible. I can't post to people's flists without that cut. I don't know what to do.
ETA: Well from scanning the help requests, it looks like a lot of people have been having the same exact problem today, so lets hope its something they can easily fix and soon. If I have to, I'll post it on ff.net and link to there on reaperfic, but I prefer the entry on my LJ. Glad its not just me though.

Pace, that is a great plot. Can't figure out how you'll handle the disappeared Sam as a character, but you will. Plus your Ben/Sock is always good. Please do clarify the Contract, since it's bugging onyourmark that Blue didn't.
On the Willow v. anonymous witch, could you hint at Willow but not be explicit? That way you could xpost to Buffy fans, but not have it derail the story for Reaper fans. It would be kinda meta? Perhaps Willow has become a witchdemon, or it is an alternate (Seattle) Willow. Again, unstated but obvious to those who know.
I'm amazed that you all can come up with this stuff. It's all I can do to take one small idea and beat it into submission. Or out of existence entirely. But, inspiration! Yes! I'm back on track.

Thanks for the link ck. I'm jealous, it seems that person was able to fix her problem. I left to comment to ask how she did it because I don't understand half of LJ's instructions. I did what I could understand which was clear my cache and restart, but no luck.

I'm looking for variations on the word "break" related to Reaper characters. Can even be "brake" or...is there anything else (homonym)? So, I could describe the story this way:
Summary: In this story... --Sam gets a break from reaping, --(etc)

|

Post by onyourmark on Sept 6, 2008 13:20:21 GMT -5
Broke? As in, "Sam and the guys are totally flat broke, so they..." ... Baroque? As in, "The Devil's favorite art history period (it totally would be)"? I don't care if that is stretching it, I just want to see you write that fic somehow. Like Blue's "Sam hates art history and oh man is Hell terrifying" fic but funnier and you get to make The Only Baroque Joke Ever (If it ain't Baroque...). Break as in "break a leg out there"? Spring Break? Heartbreak? Prison Break?

OK these actually help. I know it's unclear, Blue, but it will all make sense someday. Hmmm, I only skimmed this before and also thought of "The Worst Day." But it's possible I could go somewhere with this...if Blue doesn't mind my borrowing Andi's interest in art.
