Uhh, because I saw the leaked pilot over the summer and thought it was the worst atrocity known to man. Crap dialogue, crap casting, riddled with plot holes and piled with manufactured mysteries and cliched conspiracies (The big evil corporation? C'mon, we've all grown up haven't we?) designed to keep you watching like a lemming. I saw right through it, glad you did too. And it kills me that it has any audience at all and gets hyped by its network when it so doesn't deserve it and Reaper does.
No it really doesn't, but that would've been hard since action moves so quickly compared to songs. That's why you have the cast and crew commentary, did you watch that one? It's more like the traditional commentary. I'm glad they did both.
So I'm still watching the fifth season of Angel and man it's good. Shame it got cancelled at that point. I love how it revisits the history between Spike and Angel and shows them as mirror twins that are really not that different at all. I always sided with Spike and hated how Angel got all the hero worship when he was just as much of a monster in his day and worse. This season really explores that. Loved the episode with Wes and his father. Amazing character dramas here. I'm now very tempted to buy the box set.
Oh, and in other news, I got some Hanukah gift money so I was able to buy the first three seasons of Doctor Who! Yay!!

Heh, did you ever watch Bionic Woman? Craig got me reminiscent for the old, fun, BW-blasting days at TWoP. Yes on the regular commentary for Dr H.. Everyone is so funny. Especially enjoyed the "Making Of" feature when they talk about the reaction to the trailer, watching the popularity soar, and loving the fansites, vids, and cosplay. That's cool. Someone did post Easter Egg stuff at TWoP and LJ but it's quite incomprehensible to me, so I'll have to wait for more explanation. Icon by buffy_the_vamp, just because.

Those eggs don't sound like they're worth the trouble. I like when you get short video clips or bonus deleted scenes or something.

NPR's Fresh Air program chose their top ten TV shows of 2008. No, Reaper didn't make the list, but other favorites did. 1. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart 2. Mad Men 3. 30 Rock 4. Pushing Daisies 5. The Shield 6. Boston Legal 7. Dexter 8. Friday Night Lights 9. 60 Minutes 10. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Interesting take, Fresh Air being what it is (politically progressive, not that I listen but everyone I know does, or so they claim). The comments are funny too, anti-establishment.

Angel season five. Not to spoil anyone, so Wow. Just saw the two parter with Fred's death. I so had Gunn picked to die, that was a depressing non-twist. I haven't been so torn up over a Joss death since Buffy's mom. He sure knows how to bring the hurt. With the flashback scenes, and the toy bunny, and the way everyone loved her and tried to save her, he couldn't have made that any more emotional if he'd tried. Joss'd.

I can't believe someone went to all that trouble to create a show PERFECTLY to my tastes, and I won't even be in the country to see it. *sigh* Guess that's another boxed set for the amazon wishlist.

Back to basics -- Angel season one on hulu. If I don't get the boxset, I'll only end up seeing seasons 1 and 5 which is all I have access to right now. I started getting them from the library but its a pain when you get one disc at a time. Too many trips and the discs are never in good shape. The amazon price has gone back up to $99 but now that I know they occasionally discount to $50, I want to wait for that sale to come around again.

pace, have you tried discountdvd.com? They sometimes have good deals. Thanks, I checked it, and $68 was the lowest. I'm holding out for $50.

I just went to deepdiscount.com* and they have Angel DVDs for $45 - $48 depending on the season.
* I always get that and discountdvd.com confused.

That's overpriced for one season. I was pricing the 1-5 boxset which is $99 on amazon and $50 when they have a sale. That deepdiscount.com is kind of a scam. They are discounting off the full retail price which unless you buy your DVDs at Circuit City, you will never pay. Amazon's discounts are much better. I checked Doctor Who and they are like $75 for season 1 (retail is $99) and amazon has it for $50. Amazon has the best prices on DVDs every time I shop, and if they don't have the lowest price, one of their marketplace sellers does.

AV Club has "The Best TV Episodes of 2008." No Reaper of course, grrr!--though one commenter, about midway down the first page of comments, does mention it! I added a comment, too. It's a pretty decent list otherwise. Dr. Horrible, stuff from The Wire, The Office, BSG, 30 Rock, HIMYM. Hey, and Chuck!

Mostly so I don't forget. Upcoming shows I'm interested in, starting every whichway. Check local listings for times in your area. Battlestar Galactica (finally!): Friday, January 16, 10 pm Dollhouse ( newish trailer--Eliza's lookin' good): Friday, February 13, 9 pm Castle (N. Fillion's new show): Monday, March 9, 10 pm ...oh, and Reaper.

Thanks, pace, now that my Wednesday shows have been relegated to the Nine/Drive bin ("we'll show the rest in the summer and meanwhile show these other great reruns, oh no we won't we'll show them online oh wait we won't show them at all!") I can be sure to catch that show. And...bummer about the PHing.

Another 2008 Top Ten with no Reaper, from Maureen Ryan. Mostly same shows we've seen on other lists, except in the "genre" category she ties Supernatural (!), Torchwood and Dr. Who. The Middleman, Burn Notice, and HIMYM are runners-up. Yet again one poster votes for Reaper; I included Mo's response.

Grrrr...That mistake is going to dog them until the day they die. And its all the networks fault for forcing them to be formulaic in the first place when they wanted to get right into the mythology and arcs.

The ever-awesome Neil Patrick Harris hosted Saturday Night Live last night and was oh-so-smooth, funny, and professional, but really, that show is pretty weak. He rose so far above the material and the other performers that it made the show look worse, I think. And "Taylor Swift" oh my god, what is that? It isn't music.
Watching all this football today, I saw an ad for Fringe. Haha, Blue, "Cate Blanchett 2.0" is perfect! And what a major disappointment that show must be, because the ads make the look and the premise seem excellent. Too bad.

Ah! I only caught the last 20 minutes, though they rerun shows so often I'll probably have another chance. He was fantastic in the Frost/Nixon parody they did, even though like you said, it was kindof weak writing. I need to get some of those still pictures of him mugging as Frost, it was hilarious.
MAJOR ditto. The song was actually pretty nice; I'd be interested in a produced version of it, but I was really disappointed because I've always been told that even though she looks like some tween queen she's got a great voice. No such luck. It was like watching a high school talent show performance.

I'm going to show my age here and say when the guy playing Rerun from What's Happening was talking about the Doobie Brothers episode they did, I remember that episode in vivid detail when it aired. Making a bootleg tape at a concert. Oooooooh... A very special What's Happening indeed.

Oh, pace, ditto on the showing my age--I saw the Doobie Brothers in concert once. Not my favorite kind of music (nor should it have been Rerun's according to that skit!) but it was one of my first, so, memories.

It's worth it, pending. Even though I'm still not sure if this is the most briliiant show ever to be devised for television, or a crazy, random mess that is beautifully filmed and amazingly acted by incredibly attractive people. I suspect it's both. Where are you in the series? And gah, pace, where do you go to chat about BSG? The TWoP thread is just too too erudite, including my good friend over there, stillshimpy. Not to mention Jacob, of course. I joined a few BSG comms at LJ, but can't quite get in the swing of episode discussion in that format. Not that I have anything intelligent to say; my jaw is still dropped. Icon by minorgraphics. ETA: Oh, pace, I see you on battlestar_blog; I'll join you there!
