Oh boy. So what becomes of Reaper if the CW folds before the show can return? It could happen. According to this article by Nikki Finke, the entire future of the network rests on the success of 90210. If the show tanks, can Reaper save the CW?

Well, Variety doesn't seem to think that the CW's in any danger of folding any time soon. I'm inclined to agree. The CW certainly won't tank before Reaper comes back.
And I don't think Reaper will save the CW. Not unless something happens with its buzz between now and the time it comes back.

Hopefully the CW will keep alive.
It is possible though, that Reaper can save them from going down the tubes... I mean think of it!
Throughout the episodes AFTER the WGA strike, the drama kept going up the ladder. Each episode led to something more dramatic and seat clenching. The whole idea of a GOOD TV show is to keep you wondering "what's going to happen next?" am I right? Reaper is that kind of TV show and I am pretty sure that if 90210 doesn't succeed, then Reaper sure as hell will.

That's how I felt, it was Acid Queen when the show really cranked up a notch for me and that was all from the car accident. Once the drama got more real I was more anxious for every scene and every ep. I hope they keep that level of drama in season two. I wouldn't mind seeing the show get even darker while maintaining the humour the way Buffy did.

It's every tiny detail that counts.
I've learned that with my own writing.
Adding a tiny detail can turn into a huge plot! It's just like planting a seed.
There's so much opportunity for Reaper... especially with the ending of Cancun. Makes you wonder even moreso.
Plus, they're adding two new characters to the show, so that should really help. Along with everything else, I'm pretty sure everything will go well. If not, I could always help out by submitting ideas to the producer of Reaper and see how things go. :]

Well I suppose we should consider this good news: 90210 got pretty good ratings. Of course there's nothing else on to watch right now and the real test will see the retention rates after week two, but to the extent we'd like to see the network succeed, Reaper fans should be happy.

Sounds to me like she doesn't give a crap about her successful scifi/fantasy shows unless young women watch them. I'm surprised Reaper got renewed at all with this attitude and no room on the schedule, but it sure sounds like the network still isn't planning on devoting any of their advertising dollars on it. If the show succeeds it will be pure word of mouth because the average viewer probably won't even know when it returns or when its on.

Well that's... not good. 3.3 is still good for the CW but a big drop off. And Reaper averaged only 2.3? I thought most of their new episodes came close to 3 million, are they counting repeats in that number and bringing the average down? I would have guessed new episodes of Reaper averaged 2.7 or 2.8 based on the ratings we were following. And does that include DVR?
And 9 million for Fringe? Not good at all for a Pilot. I'm guessing next week will be lower. I wouldn't mind seeing that show fail. I'm sick of Hollywood kissing JJ's ass.

I would have guessed new episodes of Reaper averaged 2.7 or 2.8 based on the ratings we were following. And does that include DVR? The numbers include Live + same day (DVR) only. Nielsen includes ALL episodes, so yes, if the number is from Nielsen then the repeats are included in the average. Reaper holds steady (scarily so) on its repeats at about 1.5 million IIRC. Having said that, I haven't crunched the numbers. So I really don't know where the 2.3 number comes from. I don't mind them kissing JJ's ass. I mind them kissing Darlton's. When JJ left is when everything went to Hell.

Oh, I so agree with you there, Blue. Those are the exact type of shows that I avoid. Especially if there family dramas. Maybe I'd be more interested if they hadn't used the word "sassy".

I'm not surprised about 90210. They really needed that show and its doing well enough. The new pilot I guess had to happen too if they ever want to expand and possibly get Sundays back for programming. It also looks like another of their female demo shows (of course it interests me not one little bit, but I'm not a female according to the CW because I've never seen Sex and the City and I don't care to). Reaper may not live forever but as long as Supernatural does, I think they'll keep the sci-fi/fantasy pairing.

I seem to be saying this a lot lately, but wth? this site lists 3 CW shows premiering on Oct 5th, 2 of which I've never heard of: Oh wait, nevermind. I missed the Timeslot: Sunday part. These must be the new Mediawhassis new programs.

Yeah, I was just going to point that out. Sunday doesn't really count as CW.

Dawn Ostroff. Nothing Reaper. Although, apparently the CW has greenlit "The Greysons" which is a study of Batman's Robin before he became Robin. I mention this only because it's got 411mania excited and Smallville's producers pissed, mainly 'cuz everyone's all oh! what's gonna take the place of Smallville when it leaves after this season:

That sucks. The last thing we need is for Reaper to get squeezed out again. Maybe they're banking on the network getting its mojo back and reclaiming Sunday nights. Then they'd have another night to do a Reaper/SPN or Greyson's/Smallville night and not have to sacrifice anything. I'm surprised the CW would take another fantasy show when it seems they're moving away from that to all the chick stuff.
I always preferred Robin to Batman (that's my sidekick thing showing), I might check a show like that out. I wondered about his background too, I don't know if the comics ever revealed more than the tv and movies did.

Apparently the Sunday night shows are doing abysmally awful. Production on both Valentine and Easy Money has been shut down for some emergency fixing and both shows are at the top of the cancellation index here with something like 500,000 viewers each. Everybody hates Chris, The Game and Privileged are also within the cancellation zone and doing poorly. Also, see the index's comments on Friday. Seems every friday show on every network is doing poorly. They call Friday a wasteland and networks may have a lower threshhold of success for shows on Friday night. Interestingly, Chuck and Pushing Daisies are also in the danger zone based on their less than stellar ratings. Unfortunately, it seems the CW is contractually obligated to air all 13 episodes of these MRC shows no matter how they perform. But we may be looking at the CW taking its Sunday nights back if they feel they can do better than MRC. Good news for Reaper finding a home on the 2009-2010 schedule perhaps?

I think putting Reaper on Sunday night would be a huge mistake. Sunday night has some really good shows especially Family Guy and Cold Case. I'd put Reaper on during the summer when viewers want to see something different.

Summer would be way too long of a wait. A lot of people already think the show is dead because it didn't return during the fall -- and since the CW wouldn't advertise it like their precious Gossip Girl, most people wouldn't even realize it's on and the ratings would plummet. :/
That said, I really hope they take their Sunday nights back. Reaper wouldn't necessarily air on Sunday; the CW would just have more space next season, so they wouldn't have to cancel Reaper in order to produce more Rich Girl shows. The MRC shows aren't that good, so I'm not surprised by the "emergency fixing."

It's so bizarre to see all these shows come back again.
What does it mean when it says Reaper "will probably be back at mid-season"? Is there some chance it won't return or something? I wish they would say already. Interesting about the Work Bench shout out on Eli Stone, though 99.9% of the people watching that show won't get it. It's cool though.

I think the "probably" relates to the timing; as in, Reaper might be back midseason, it might be back in the summer, who the hell knows. I do love the Eli Stone shout out, though I feel like it's one tiny show waving at another. But it's fun to have them existing in the same 'tele-verse', seeing as how the two are so similar. About the Graysons though? I give it a month, tops. The WB already went down this road with Birds of Prey, and not only did it suck but also everyone laughed meanly at the embarrassing way that it sucked. And they had WAY more to work with than poor Dick Grayson and his circus family. The cruel laughter has already started.

I don't know whether to cheer or cry over this one. I keep telling myself what's good for the network is good for Reaper, but I'm also afraid they can get too big on the one genre and decide they don't need Reaper anymore.

I know absolutely less than nothing about networks and ratings, but my guess is the better the network does, the better for Reaper. But I didn't even know One Tree Hill was still on the air. pace's link to Ausiello did make me laugh, though. The comments are very humorous. (Hint: Supernatural fans.)

I know, the Supernatural fans are feeling as persecuted as we are. We really should join forces except that for some reason they seem threatened by us.
