Anyone seen any of his movies? I tried to watch Deal but it was just too boring for words. Unfortunately it also got trashed worldwide. Not that I want him to become a movie star, I like him just fine on my tv. ;D I wonder if his new one Mardi Gras will be any good.

Oh! Despite pace's review (zzzzzzzzz) I'm going to get this. He looks so handsome in the trailers. Plus, hot kissing. I read it in several reviews.

I saw Deal this week... nothing special and the ending was expected. If it wasn't for Bret I would never watch it... I really want to see some of his other films but can't find it anywhere!

Thanks, that's a download though. I won't do those from places I don't know and trust. I was hoping to find it streaming but stc doesn't have it.

Just saw Lightning Bug and wow, it was so much better than I expected. I generally have low expectations of independent films unless they've gotten a lot of buzz. I don't know how this one did but it should have done a whole better because it was really enjoyable. Bret plays Green Graves, a teenager in Alabama with dreams of becoming a special effects horror movie artist. Of course he's very talented but has a challenging home life and only wants to escape his town. He has great chemistry with Laura Prepon (from That 70's Show) who plays his girlfriend.
I liked that while it was unrated and could have been gratuitously violent, profane, etc., it wasn't. There's language of course and some horror elements and gore but everything was appropriate to the story and not hard to watch at all. It's just a great human drama with realistic characters that's loosely based on the writer/director's own life. He's Rob Hall, and has done the special effects for Buffy and Angel.
Fabulous casting, Bret's character was just loveable in the lead (actually a little Sam like. He so often plays these moral, smart, sweet, vulnerable kids. He's perfect in that role). It was a terrific story and moved along at a great pace, never dragging. I liked the cut and the direction a lot. I'm going to watch it again with the commentary but there are excellent deleted scenes with commentary, a making of documentary and outtakes on there too. It's a great DVD package, and I got it for less than $10 with shipping. I recommend that any fan of Bret pick this up. Tremendous performance from him.

Huh. I did not know that Bret was in Orange County (as Brett Harrison!). Anyhoo, there's a Jack Black Pack with Orange County and School of Rock, for a reasonable price at Amazon to boot. *edited by pacejunkie -- fixed formatting

Oh, I google alert Bret's name to get the Reaper stuff too, because I was afraid Reaper was too generic and I would get a lot of unrelated junk. Most Reaper news has Bret named somewhere in the content.

I'm woefully behind on the Bret movies; pace, I totally missed your review of Lightening Bug, that sounds really good and I'm going to look for it. He looks great in those Mardi Gras pics, but I don't know if I'll be seeing that one. Let's hope it's a hit, though. Would be good for the show.
I tried to sit through Orange County once to see him, but I think I got distracted and wandered off.

That is a nice story, but the more I hear about that film the less I want to see it. Hope it's success for Bret's sake, anyway.

Plot? What plot?
It's exactly what it says on the tin, that is, three young dudes road trip to New Orleans and celebrate Mardi Gras with all the debauchery that that suggests. Not exactly an Oscar contender. I just hope its amusing enough to sit through.

Oh, sorry! Didn't even think there. Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday, it's the French Creole celebration that kicks off Lent, like Carnivale in Brazil and loads of other places. It's like the last day to celebrate and party before the period of denial begins that leads up to Easter. It's really just an excuse to go mad and get pissed.
