As some of you know, every year my sisters and I host a trivia competition as a fund-raiser for a local non-profit. Many of you have contributed great questions in the past, and the more variety and diversity, the better. Topics range from music to movies to literature to celebrities, sports, politics, geography and history.
In a bit I'll post some sample questions, but if you can help me out, list your question ideas here!

'K, here are the suggestions stinger97 gave me several years (!) ago:
Q: What was Doug Funnie's dog's name on the animated Nickelodeon series, Doug? A: Porkchop.
Q: What was the first city visited by MTV's The Real World? A: New York.
Q: What's the name of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's female friend? A: April O'Neil.
Q: In the film The Goonies, what is the name of Chunk's "special" dance? A: The Truffle Shuffle.
I know his are all about entertainment, but anyway. Just to give an idea of the length and style.

1) Adolf Hitler had a Jewish relative. Who was it? His mother False. There was some question about his earlier relative, can dig up details if you wish. But his mother was not Jewish (that would make him Jewish as well) 5) Who FIRST discovered the Americas? The Vikings False. It was people who moved there via Bering Strait (where do you think Native Americans came from?) 7) How many crusades were there? Nine False. There were 9 crusades aimed at Outremer (one ended up sacking Constatinople, 2 in Egypt and one in Tunis). There were however additional crusades in Baltic, aimed at christinizing pagans living there (mostly Lithuania but also Prussians, Wends, Finns....) and from time to time aimed at Orthodox Novgorod. In addition crusades were launched as part of Reconquista, christian retaking of Spain and Portugal. There were additionaly crusades in Balkans aimed at Ottomans, most famous 1396 which met it's end at battle of Nicopolis. There is a debate whether all of those were proper crusades as some didn't receive papal indulgences (aka "Get out of Hell free card"), something that was central point to crusades. But some did and some indulgences were granted for longer priods rather than individual campaigns.

That's cool, y'all, we can't really do questions with numbers as the answer anyway.
Keep them coming!

Actually, the Native Americans moved when the world was still set in Pangea. Saying that they found America is like saying I found New Jersey. Pangea existed 250 million years ago, when there were no humans to speak of. people discovered America about 12.000 years ago, when North America and Asia were still connected at later-day Bering strait. They were first ones to discover America, since they were first ones to set foot there I was meant about the main ones. more famous ones sure. Main? Debatable. They lastedlonger and were in the long term more sucessfull

Nah, it's all okay. We field test and fact check all the questions before we use them, once we boil down to the final 100. Sometimes we reword them, or slightly switch the question to ask it a different way.
So at this point we are mostly gathering general arenas. Don't worry about editing or too much wording or accuracy at this point. For this phase, diversity is the key! Keep 'em coming!

1) Adolf Hitler had a Jewish relative. Who was it? His mother False. There was some question about his earlier relative, can dig up details if you wish. But his mother was not Jewish (that would make him Jewish as well) I believe it's his (maternal?) grandmother most historians suspect, which would still make him Jewish under his 1/4 rule IIRC. But that's only if they can confirm it, which I don't think anyone truly has. Edited: Oops, it's his paternal grandfather, since Hitler's father was illegitimate (and *his* father's identity is not accurately determined). That's where the controversy comes from. www.straightdope.com/columns/read/797/was-hitler-part-jewish

Hmmm. Couple geology ones: 1. The State of Michigan is rebounding (returning back to original more elevated position) due to what? - the heavy weight of the glaciers from the last ice age are gone, no longer pressing the area down. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-glacial_rebound2. The element geologists look for in order to determine a meteorite impact is? - Iridium. It was highly present in the K/T boundary leading to the theory of an impact causing the extinction of dinosaurs - long before a crater was ever found. www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/education/events/cowen1b.html3. Mount Mazama (Cascade volcano) is now known as what? - Crater Lake (Oregon). Mazama's eruption was one of the largest on record, covering at least 8 states with ash. It's the largest known eruption of a Cascadia volcano. vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Volcanoes/CraterLake/description_crater_lake.html4. Evidence of the 1700 Cascadia (US West Coast) Earthquake (est Mag 9+) was first found where? - in writings by Japanese historians, who documented the ensuing "orphan" mega-tsunami. It was called an orphan tsunami because no one knew the source. pubs.usgs.gov/pp/pp1707/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1700_Cascadia_earthquake5. A rock eroded from one place and deposited somewhere else by either water or glacier is called what? - erratic. This is one of the largest pieces of evidence for the Missoula Floods, since scattered granitic erratics are found throughout Washington and Oregon. Due the the lava floods, the region is basaltic, and the nearest source of granite is in Canada. Hence the conclusion something large must have happened to move such rocks 1000s of miles from their source. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacial_erraticen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missoula_Floods6. When an ice dam in Montana broke, unleashing Glacial Lake Missoula (a lake 200 miles across, as large as an inland sea), approximately how long did it take the lake to drain 430 miles to the Pacific Ocean? - 55 hours, less than 3 days. Give or take a day or two. Average speed was around 65 mph. It's said you could hear the water rushing down the Columbia River Gorge at least an hour in advance. www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/02/geologists_find_a_way_to_simul.htmlvulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Glossary/Glaciers/IceSheets/description_lake_missoula.htmlgeology.isu.edu/Digital_Geology_Idaho/Module13/mod13.htm7. The theorized hotspot that created the Columbia River Basalt flow - one of the largest flood basalt flows in the world - is now under what national park? - Yellowstone. It's guessed that Yellowstone isn't as active because the hotspot is now under thicker continental rock, making it more difficult (and farther) to reach the surface than when it was under the thinner oceanic rock during the CRB flow (estimated as the second or third largest flood basalt flow in the world but I can't find a link for that). www.oregongeology.com/sub/publications/ims/ims-028/unit08.htmwww.semp.us/publications/biot_reader.php?BiotID=217www.mantleplumes.org/CRB.html8. What evidence is used to show that the Pacific Plate has changed direction? - The Hawaiian archipelago. The Emperor seamounts (undersea volcanoes) are the oldest volcanoes created by the Hawaiian hotspot, and there is a sudden shift in direction when the Hawaiian islands started forming. The island of Hawaii is the latest area of the plate over the Hawaiian hotspot (hence why it's so eruptive), but it is slowly moving off the spot and a new seamount (called Lolhi) is currently being formed. www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/images/linearislands.gifwww.hawaii-guide.com/images/body_images/misc-hawaiian_archipelago.jpgwww.hawaii-forest.com/_img/natural-history/geology-001.jpgen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaiian_%E2%80%93_Emperor_seamount_chainwww.soest.hawaii.edu/GG/ASK/plate-tectonics2.htmlwww.soest.hawaii.edu/GG/HCV/loihi.html9. The State of Oregon is being rotated in a circle due to what? - the uneven forces of the plates colliding. The North American plate is heading due west, but the Juan de Fuca is going more north-east. Hence the rotation causing the Klamath Mountains to land in their current place, whereas when they originally accreted onto the former west coast of North America (now the Idaho border) where the current Blue Mountains reside. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic-Wallowa_Lineament#Oregon_rotationen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accretion_(geology)geology.isu.edu/Digital_Geology_Idaho/Module4/mod4.htm10. The Appalachian Mountains were created when what supercontinent was being formed? - Pangaea. The Appalachians are actually an extension of the Anti-Atlas Mountain range in Morocco (Africa). When I was in college, some of my professors were working on a Chilean connection as well. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=7218thomaslegion.net/appalachianmountainshistoryappalachianmountainsmap.htmlen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_Mountains#Geology
