A+ for best episode EVER.
No Kristin Sock picking up chicks at a funeral the Straw-to-matic sibling rivalry Awesome soul fight Pissed off Morgan Alan. Alan. Alan. The loco grandma Sweet Nina Evil Devil
Seriously, this could not have been better. It hit all the right notes. It was funny, sad, suspenseful, everything. Now Morgan has it in for Sam and the Devil is on to Alan. What an amazing cliffhanger.

I do so love reading pace's review before I watch the show. It's a kind of...orientation, I guess. Like summer orientation for college, without the beer.

Now that was a good episode! Definitely the best one of the season. And I kind of even like the bad ones...
But the old grandma was better than the new one.

Did adore this. Laughed my ass off at the Devil's initial speech. I kept waiting for Sam to say "aaaannnnd what exactly is my incentive again?" And I even loved Sock. If you forget all about the Kristen crap, it was nice to see Sock being *Sock* again.

I loved the exchange in the opener where Sock declares he's going to get rid of his cell phone and use a pager and a phone booth and Sam says something like, "So are you selling dime bags out of your car?"

Loved the heck out of this episode. The best part was Andi tackling Alan in the cemetary. Will & I started cracking up as soon as she started running-- outrunning Ben instantly, obviously-- and were nearly in tears by the time Sam was half-humping the guy. I'm a big fan of shots where someone is doing something serious in the foreground and something incongruous is occurring in the background. It's a great comics standby but television and film don't make use of it nearly enough.
Also loved Sam actually managing to kick ass both times he ran into the soul. Fuck yeah badass!Sam. Not that watching him fail isn't half my reason for watching the show, but yanno. Soul-capturing really is the one thing he's inexplicably kinda good at. I wonder if that's what he's going to end up challenging the Devil with.
That or Guitar Hero. He does rock the house at it, after all.

I loved the Morgan and Sam subplot. They were awesome. Loved Ben and Nina I'm sorry they are breaking up. I hated Sock he got over Kristin far too quickly. I felt bad for Alan why didn't he tell all of this to Sam sooner?

Good episode last night. Much better than the past few weeks, although I still prefer The Sweet Science.
I am really scared for Ben. Grandma on one side, and now Nina on the other. Andi chasing down Alan in the cemetary was predicatable, but still funny. Taking Alan to the track was inspired and the Devil diverting the plane to land in Vegas and give all passengers $100 in chips pure genius. Evil genius.
Morgan took a step back this week. I can't be scared of him and don't see why Sam should be either. He's a pampered blowhard. If they don't make him more than a nuisance in the next episode, they should just get rid of the character.
Why were Sam and Andi celebrating? They didn't have all the info needed from Alan, and, oh yeah, Sam hadn't beaten the Devil at anything yet. Call me crazy, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Devil cheated during any such contest. If I'm Sam, though, I'm thinking beer pong as the game of choice.

I have to rewatch tonight to really be able to comment. I missed some stuff, obviously. I blame pace's beer, plus that novium, kathyk and I (and later blue and random) were chatting madly during the show. It's the Pacific Time watch party, people should come join. Distracting, yes, but ultimately rewarding.
Plus I was doing my Powerpoint (ugh) for my lecture today. ANYway, the one thing that sticks out is this whole "beat the Devil" thing. Maybe we should have a write-in poll on what we think that would be. So far we have Reaping, Guitar Hero, and Beer Pong. In Chat we were thinking Loving And Being Loved. Aww.

Mmmm, yeah, I was annoyed by this episode for some inexplicable reason. I just found everything to be so heightened that I couldn't really enjoy it. Sock picking up a girl at a funeral was gross to me. Ben and Sock almost going with their stupid straw idea over Sam's soul was appalling, and Sam showing more sympathy for Benji and his grandmother's recent heartattack was, well, heartless. But the Morgan/Sam scenes were great. Morgan attacking Sam's height had me rolling. "What are you 5'4'', 5'5''? . Nina's still on my good side. It was just some of the(surprise!) writing that got to me. Which is sad because they had two writers on this one.

I'm putting this here b/c it is a recap of the episode at the CW Source with a poll about Alan. Only 12 people have voted so far, so go vote, and comment! Not a lot of other insights there, pretty straightforward recap. And I'm still pushing people to join novium and me over at AV Club, where the recapper Zack Handlen is really cool, seems to (want to) like the show, and the posters are pretty decent mostly. "A likeable asshole!" "I think I like Sam most when he's annoyed." Hahaha! Also, comment over there, to be sure the recaps keep happening. One poster said s/he never heard of the show, found the review, and decided to start watching. Yeah, okay, just one, but still.

I really liked this episode, the end scene of the Devil kind of stalking toward Alan on the plane was awesome. I love when he's legitimately creepy.
This episode made me like Morgan a little bit more too, I haven't really been a fan up until now, but I didn't mind him last night.

Hey, guys, need a little help for the recap. Was there only four commercial breaks this episode or did one escape my notice? (usually there are five, I think?) Right now, this is what I have noted for where the breaks are:
1) The gang catches Alan at the graveyard in front of funeral goers 2) Nina gives Grandma a heart attack 3) Two biker dudes comes out of the gateway to hell 4) Morgan threatens Sam after The Devil takes his keys

Hey, guys, need a little help for the recap. Was there only four commercial breaks this episode or did one escape my notice? (usually there are five, I think?) Right now, this is what I have noted for where the breaks are: I'll check tonight and try and post it tomorrow. I think there's usually 5. You can also probably check when it's up on the CW website (which'll most likely be tomorrow).

Hi bec, the second commercial break was right after they try to catch the soul for the first time and Sam comes out to find Morgan on the phone making dinner reservations and Morgan tells him that he broke his vessel. All the rest of your breaks are correct.

I'm a big fan of shots where someone is doing something serious in the foreground and something incongruous is occurring in the background. It's a great comics standby but television and film don't make use of it nearly enough. Yeah, I really liked that scene too. Hilarious as hell! This episode was great, truly great. Almost every single scene reminded me why this show has so much potential: Sam as the badass bounty hunter from hell, even if he whines all the time; Morgan as the evil, yet jealous, half-brother; Andi supporting Sam again; Sock being Sock again without the "I banged my sister" crap; Nina threatening Ben; Ben's grandma having a heart-attack... and finally... the Devil dressed as a flight attendant stalking Alan. It was just so perfect that I wonder why these writers don't do all the episodes. If The CW doesn't renew Reaper, I'm definitely sending Dwarf of Snot (code name for Dawn Ostroff, remember? hehe) back to Hell where she belongs.

Oh, awesome and hilarious recap by bec of this episode over in the recap board. Cool name for it! And yeah, Morgan's befuddlement was hilarious. Uhhhh. Also, fantastic description of the Vatican City promo video. I'd forgotten that!
