I'm worried that they might lose the Josie character. And that would be wrong. Because she's funny, sexy, snipey, and hilarious. I love her moves and her maturity. But, I don't know where they can take her character. Any ideas?

No reason to think that yet. We haven't heard any chatter to that effect so I think she's fine. They need to bring her in to the Scoobies though and use new characters as the ignorant masses.

I thought I'd put Valarie's "Can't Truss It" video up, in case some people haven't seen it yet:

I'm determined to watch that video someday, when the Evil Overload known as dial-up doesn't get in my way.
I'm honestly surprised that Josie lasted for all of season one. Usually, characters like her are phased out by mid-season. I really hope she doesn't vanish during season two, because she's interesting and makes a nice contrast to the other characters.
Maybe she'll get fired and the Devil, as sneaky as he is, will hire her for his "company." ^^

I'll be perfectly honest -- when this series began I didn't call her Josie, I called her Plot Device. She was terribly misused as the one smart character with the courthouse job who got them all the information they needed when they needed it. By the third episode of her doing this, I was almost beaten down by the formulaic nature of the show and begging for a change. But then they did change it, and I realized it wasn't Josie that I disliked.
I still wish they'd find a better role for her, but she fits better with the Scoobies as part of the mythology, not as a soul of the week detective. I want her to start wondering what the boys (and now Andi) are up to and get in on the game. She needs to be brought into the circle kind of like Cordelia was on Buffy or she won't last.

Yeah, but not completely; Sam can only have so much of a posse, when it's clear the Devil tolerates (not likes) his friends. I think Andi's enough.

In that case I'm not sure what kind of a future Josie will have. They can't keep her in the dark forever, she's already been suspicious of the boys. There needs to be some growth for her character beyond experimental Ted dating.

Her growth, or Sam's growth? Maybe I'm just projecting my own hopes, but I keep hoping that Sam will be doing more of a moonlighting thing, and maybe Josie will think he's private investigating. I thought they got pretty close to that in the Pilot-- only Josie's plot-device status kept her from putting together the fact that Sam was investigating an arsonist with the fact that the arsonist was suddenly stopped.

...but I keep hoping that Sam will be doing more of a moonlighting thing, and maybe Josie will think he's private investigating. I kinda think that would be a good way to go with Sam too. Being something like a real-life bounty hunter, only notsomuch Dog the Bounty Hunter. Just someone who can find some people and turn them in for the rewards. He's got to come across them sooner or later while he's soul-chasing, or with his time with the Devil.

I could see that as an obvious career path that is so sensible the writers will ignore it. I don't know if y'all watched the later seasons of Buffy but at some point she needs income and seeks out all these stupid minimum wage jobs and I'm like hello, martial arts instructor much? She was obviously suited for something in sports or fitness but they had her slinging hash. It was stupid, but I guess it made for better comedy than to do the obviously appropriate thing. So back to Sam, real life bounty hunter? It would work as a good cover for his real job as reaper for hell, but could you see him that grown up before like the fifth or sixth season? Here's a Josie idea, maybe remembering his past investigations she goes to him for help one day to find a fugitive, assuming that is what he is doing. He then has to either tell her what he really does (and why he can't help her) or help her out to keep his cover, thus successfully keeping Josie in the dark.

If it weren't for Sock and Ben, I could totally see him that grown up now. But yeah, Sam's got a pretty good sane head on him, I can see him being good at it - if not a bit fumbly at the same time.

I'm not talking real bouty hunter, I'm talking PI. Most private investigating is just long stakeouts to get a picture, but also he'd mainly be faking it, so I can see him getting by with that as a half-cover story, half-what he's really doing. Some way for him to get involved with Josie's office.
Or maybe Josie gets fired, and starts her own private investigating/consulting operation? I would so love that. If Sam was part-timing for her, it would give him access and some job training.

Whoa. I want to save Josie as much as anyone, but I don't see any of this.

Whoa. I want to save Josie as much as anyone, but I don't see any of this. You can't see him doing pretty much what he already does? Stakeouts, computer searches, etc? Imagine what he did in All Mine, and pretend the guy was wanted for something too. Tada! PI work *and* a bounty.

I just think they can't continue to have her in that role and not eventually figure out he's not a PI.

It does seem logical that Josie would suspect Sam of being some kind of PI. Even if she doesn't end up suspecting him of that, I hope to see her acting on her suspicions more in season two. Now that Andi is in the know, Josie will no doubt pick up on that and try to get answers directly from her.
Too bad seeing her dropped from season two entirely seems more plausible at this point. :/

The fact that new female characters have been added concerns me slightly but so far we have no indication that Val is no longer with the show.

I love the interaction between Sock and Josie. I think they have great chemistry and feed off each other's wittiness.

So, folks, I think we probably should have started a "SAVE JOSIE!" campaign back in August. After checking out the new trailer for the second season, I noticed that Josie was missing from all scenes. Curious, I went to the show's website and checked the cast list and, it appears, that Valerie Rae Miller is no longer working on Reaper. Disappointing.

She could still be working, just relegated to a Ted or Gladys size role. If she's been fired, I kinda think that might be big enough news that we would have heard some inkling of it by now, especially since the season is done filming.

She never was main cast, always a recurring guest star, so I could see if she's not listed there. But...in fact imdb shows she did a movie this past year but is not listed as having done Reaper season two so I'd say she could very likely be gone. They usually list all work in production even if it hasn't aired yet. Since they're done shooting, Reaper should be listed if she worked on it. I think Josie's been replaced guys. Which is a shame, but there were times I think they didn't know what to do with her.

Don't give up hope yet. I just checked Missy and Bret at IMDB and they are not updated either.

She was main cast when the show began, hence the reason she's in all the official promo shots, like the one used for Mark's brilliant banner. *Donovan* has always been recurring guest star, but Valarie's initial involvement in the show was clearly originally slated to be main cast. That she's fallen to the wayside ever since is really the problem. She's almost the Mandyville of Reaper nowadays.

I really like her, she's cool and got a good sense of humuer! I can see why they might ditch her though, she doesn't interact with the other charecters as much as Andi and such like I think she should figure something out about Sam or overhear something they said, then a whole episode could follow with her thretning to go to the police. At the end they could knock her out or something and se forget the whole thing! that would be a good filler episode if they are stuggling for ideas just a thought
