Can't believe we haven't talked about the pilot over here. I'll add more later, but briefly: --Lots of spec about drunk Mom and what she meant when she said "tell them to come get me." --Apparently a lot of people snarked on the recapper b/c barnes got ticked.
and this interesting item from mynamehere--makes me think of blue's Quiet Desperation.
Whew. That was from a year ago.

And I must paste this because...well...it's Stinger!

I beg to differ with Stinger here and point out that Buffy most definitely had slayer power. We saw episodes where she loses her slayer power and gets her ass kicked. She had prophetic dreams, was super strong and a super fighter and not just because she trained.
The reason we could still relate to Buffy was because she dealt with real life issues and problems at the same time she was a Slayer, and those real life dilemmas were things she couldn't just fight with her slayer power. In real life, high school, relationships, money troubles, etc, she was as human as us. That's why I don't have a problem with Sam having superpowers either. They may come in handy in his work as a bounty hunter, but other than that, he's still a regular guy and like Buffy, powers won't solve all his problems.

I've watched the Pilot many times but have never spotted this detail. Love it!

Has anyone heard Kevin Smith's Podcast about directing the pilot? Interesting stuff
search - SModcast 8: The Entirely Too Over-Long Episode (also on itunes) (starts 15min. in)
Good to hear about the process and red tape that goes along with making a show. Despite the many hindrances that are now gone as season 1 is over, I don't suggest he do it again even tho: I love his stuff, the pilot and this crazy show idea I heard that they could pull in Tom Welling (Clark/Superman from Smallville) for a guest cameo spot that the huge Superman fan (Smith) would love.

Cool find, pod, I haven't heard that before, and didn't know that Kevin Smith had a podcast; no surprise I guess. Here's one link, though possibly your idea of googling is better since this site kept quitting on me. I'm going to try iTunes instead! I'll report back if anything juicy! ETA: I listened, and I summarized, in the Media Mentions thread. The things I do for you all!

The thing that bugs me most about the pilot - Sam's disappearing and reappearing face fuzz. I showed my brother the pilot today and we almost started a drinking game out of it. That aside, I love everything else in this episode. The hockey rink scene still gives me the heebijeebies.
Hmm I did a transcript and a bunch of screencaps last year, but there's always something new that sticks out. For some reason I had deluded myself into believing that Andi didn't see the Devil until the magic episode, but she saw him at the end of this one too.

Hmm I did a transcript and a bunch of screencaps last year, Do link. That is, if we don't have them already. My goal is world Reaper domination, in case y'all haven't figured that out already. And yeah, talk to cko and onyourmark IIRC about the glory of Bret's magical facial fuzz. I still say it's one of his demon powers.

Just a quick question. Sam was in college. So, which subjects do you think he chose?
