Oh, Andi. I love ya girl, and you decided to stick up for Sam, but how could you be so stupid? You risk Sock's soul, not your own. We know it's possible to sell another person's soul. Hell, that's the premise of the show. Nina recognized the opportunity to put Sock at risk, and she took it. And, Sock's fine. I'm sure he'd do just fine w/o a soul.
Still, I was happy to see Sock being a good friend to Ben and rushing to stop the exorcism. Sure, he had to read Ben's letter and had no idea what was in it, but once he realized what it was, he was all over it. I wasn't a huge fan of the version of "White Rabbit" played while Sock was driving. It's the first time I've heard it (and don't recognize the artist). But, I liked the concept.
Sam, Sam, Sam. Have you learned nothing? Read everything first. Make sure of the rules before you start the contest.
Lots of sacrificing going on here. Which makes sense for a season ending episode. And I emphasize the words season ending.
Overall, a strong finish. Solid A.

Wow, that is where the show should have been all season long. I really liked this episode. After a 12 episode break, we finally got back to the excellent storylines explored after the writer's strike. I really liked the Steve as a guardian angel idea. Andi offering her soul. The exorcism, the monkey dance, the devil distracted by his image! Everything worked. A+ for me. This even sets up replacing Sock with Andi in the soul hunting (if they can't get Tyler back), if they have to, if we get a season 3.

They said we'd find out the truth about Sam's parents and origins by the end of the season. The episode was good, the closing was good. Still- no f*cking answers. I hope to god we get a bloody third season, the show can't end like this.

I don't remember that exact promise about Sam's parents awesomereaperfan, to the extent they made any assurances about Sam's parents I think it was covered in the first episode with Mr. O's return. I think they're ordinary human and Mr. O made himself a zombie as a result of the deal to not die. That's pretty much it. As to Sam's true parentage, I don't think we were promised we get that.
Anyway, onto the ep -- I gave it an A+ because I love this show and hate the CW. What did I love?
+ The X-Files shout-outs. Did you spot them? The big one of course was the hallucinogenic toad. Tyler appeared on an episode of the X-Files and he played a stoner slacker that licked toads to get high. Also, the fairy chick smoked "Morleys" which was the fake brand that cancer man smoked.
+ Nina's sacrifice. How much do I love her? So so much. I lost it when she told Ben she loved him and Ben had no clue and still thought it was all an act. Loved the whole exorcism story really.
+ Gladys and Steve. So what is this grand design because man I want to hate Steve for what he did to Sam.
+ And Sam and Andi. Man oh man. They had him. They really had him and then Steve breaks Sam's hand. Can an angel be an ass? Sure, I guess if there's some good reason. Now I'm dying to know what this good reason is. Loved Andi's sacrifice and the two of them throwing rocks at Steve. Loved the clarinet and the quarters games.
Loved the Devil losing to his own vanity. Loved Sock's drug trip and the way he saved Nina. Loved the ending with the scoobies together again. Loved the angel light show.
Two minutes before it ended I couldn't believe the show would end on a hopeful note but it actually did. There seemed to be so much left to resolve but it was still a good ending. Now we have to make sure it doesn't end here.

Okay, my thoughts on the season (possibly series) finale.
Now, I’d usually have been a bit more upset since the finale didn’t solve anything, just added to the problems, but as I was watching the episode, my mind made some assumptions. First, when Andy said she wanted to meet with the Devil, my first thought was that she was going to sell the soul of her first born child (don’t look at me like that; it made sense at the time). So, I was pretty relieved when she just sold her own soul.
Anyways, Sock finally wasn’t an asshole and actually did some good, so I’m happy with that. I laughed when Ben’s ending was the only positive one. It makes me think back to the times when the series first began, that it was Ben who was always injured and wasn’t very lucky (except with woman).
My only gripe with this episode is Steve’s departure at the very end. Yeah, it was a pretty sight (tad cliché, though), but the sound effects and the blast afterwards really didn’t add to the mood. Made me think of spaceships and such. Also, the Devil made me frown. He was pretty awesome, but I dunno, I just thought something wasn’t right. He seemed a bit more 2-dimentianal this season, most of his good side vanishing somewhere. I dunno, maybe it’s just me.
So, all and all, nice episode. I just wish some of the questions plaguing the series would be answered. Hopefully, the next season (if we get it) will answer them.

We. Need. A. Third. Season. And Forth and Fifth and Sixth and.... Shut yo mouth. Heh. This is turning out to be a trademark for the show. Remember the odd celebration after Mr. O died in last season's finale?

I really didn't like this episode. I hated Steve so much I felt like he set Sam up to fail. Andi was not herself at all I don't believe she would ever sell her soul. Sam was awesome I love how he took care of Andi when she was drunk.

I loved this episode. Between Sam dancing like a monkey, Sock's "exorcism" and Sam and Andi pelting Steve with rocks, I thought it was one of the funniest in a while.
I caught that she smoked "Morleys" which I thought was an awesome little shout-out, but I can't believe that I didn't pick up on the hallucinogenic toad.
It was nice, amidst all the campaigning to save the show, to just sit back for an hour and enjoy an episode.

well overall, solid "season" finale". gotta be optimistic at this point and hope abc pulls through a deal that would keep reaper alive through syndication. so sam didn't get out of his deal, but in the end it was kind of a win-win situation. he got his girl back, and now for the moment they can live together with the same equal fates. didn't really like the exorcism part, but that's just me. oh and haha, sock driving while he was high or w/e and the hallucinations. that part really got me going.

This can't be the end. There has to be more!
I actually like the development of Andi putting her soul on the line for Sam. He did it for her in "Greg, Schmeg". It's interesting that she's the only one who meets the Devil (and more than once), for all Sock and Ben's regular involvement in the soul catching, they still haven't met the Devil. At times Andi has been too relegated to the love-interest role and not as involved in the Devil stuff as Sock and Ben, this could really change things up for the better.
I really want to see what happens after this! I already sent letters, I hope they help.

Just found the forums guys! Have to say that was a fantastic Finale for the Second Series however it pains me to even think one of the funniest and entertaining TV series out there is just gonna be no more. Anyways, what an end though, the whole set up to continue on just seems to work so well. Hell the way it was shaping I thought they were going to end up finishing it there and then but I'm so glad they didnt. The final twist with Steve and the potential link with the Heavens for both Sam and Andi set things up great to continue on with. Have to say.....Sok all drugged up because of the toad was a masterstroke! Fantastic Finale and this is from a guy from the UK and I will gladly watch through this again when it comes on E4.

That Gastown steam clock the Devil and Sam were standing next to in the "monkey dance" scene is a pretty famous Vancouver landmark. I wonder if that means the Devil actually devilported him to Vancouver. Or is there supposed to be a similar steam clock in Seattle?
Ha, my idle semi-prediction for Sam to get another cast of some kind before the end of the season totally came true. He had pretty good aim throwing rocks at Steve with the hand cast on. Maybe he should have paused the contest to get his hand fixed first, then he would have had a better shot. Nobody set any rules about time limits, after all, and the Devil himself paused the game by smashing the shot glass.
Of course, the show would be very much over if he did successfully win, so I'm glad he lost! Even though I was so upset for him when I was watching. Hee.
I still don't totally get how Sam can be the Devil's son and have his soul sold out from under him at the same time. The Devil apparently didn't own Morgan's soul, Morgan went to hell because he was evil. And why does the Devil NEED to own Sam's soul if Sam is tied to him as his spawn, anyway? The show just can't end with all these loose ends. All must be explained in the next season!

Great season finale. (Get that ABC? Not series finale, but SEASON! SEASON! SEASON! PLEEEAAASE!!! Oh for God's sake don't let it die!)
...anyway...other viewers thought the monkey dance was funny, but it made me wince, it was so demeaning for Sam. Whenever Sam balks at obeying the devil, the devil reminds him that he owns him and says he HAS to do it, and Sam does. Wonder what would happen if Sam just said no and told the devil where to shove it.
Poor Sam is so kind, he always tips off the soul as to why he's there, and gives the soul a chance to attack first. He should just charge in and zap the guy.
Good to see Gladys again, finally. And more of Steve too.
As for Sam losing the contest with the devil, I'm glad he did. If he won that way it would be too easy and wouldn't mean anything. His winning against the devil has to go beyond mere trickery, cleverness, or being good at games. It has to be something transcendent. It has to come from some kind of inner spiritual transformation to be truly meaningful. I think that could be what's behind Steve's intervention. What would that look like for Sam (and now Andi)? I don't know. Might be a deepening of the natural integrity he already has shown, and maybe an understanding of what that kind of inner strength is really all about. Have to get some really good writers to pull it off too.

I love-love-loved this episode. Of all the season finales I've watched this year, this is by far my favorite one. I mean, seriously: what other show can get away with monkey dancing, frog-roofies, and hand-smashing angels?
I was kind of mad at Sam when his hand got smashed, actually. I mean, I'm glad he's not out of the deal yet, but if Sam had taken his turn before the Devil like he had during the previous round of quarters, Steve never would've been able to stop him from winning. (Tsk-tsk, Sammy. Tsk!)
I laughed so hard when a drugged-up Sock tried to save Nina. (He was actually likable this episode! Yay!) And Sam and Andi chucking rocks at Steve was simply priceless. This show HAS to continue, not just for the hilarity, but to finally find out why Sam is so darn special. I honestly think that, since he's currently stuck capturing souls, his destiny will be to release all those souls from hell so they can be redeemed. (If a demon can be redeemed, then certainly humans can, too!)
*hugs show* Uncancel yourself soon, please!

Oh, everyone, welcome and welcome back, thanks for these great insights on the ep. I can't wait 'til we've saved the show and I can spend a relaxing (hopefully short) offseason thinking, reading, and writing about the actual show! Meanwhile, nice review from The Children of St. Clare. Especially like this part:

Motherbear, you are so totally right, Sam getting his soul back does have to happen that way for it to feel like a real win. I think at some point, there has to be a turning point where Sam gets to chose his own fate instead of having all these forces decide his destiny for him. (Next season! Yes, next season...)

That was just a great show.
I would list everything that was great about it, but then I'd have to pretty much transcribe the whole darn thing.
Loved it from beginning to end and now have to watch it at least 3 (or 18) more times.
There will be a season 3, there will be a season 3, there will be a season 3, there will be a season 3, there will be a season 3...

I remember that Sam also rocked at Guitar Hero, so I'm surprised they didn't bring that back up again, and video games in general as a challenge option.
And the more I think about the ending the more I love the brilliance of bringing in the concept of God intervening and doing something that appears to be bad but in the end is for a greater good. I never would have guessed that Steve would trip Sam up, I was waiting for the Devil to pull something. Classic bait and switch but it also suggests a deeper mythology at work here, that there is no Heaven/God/good v. Hell/Devil/bad here -- we've seen that in countless ways. Sam is a damned soul working for Satan and yet he's good. Andi is damned, yet she is good. Nina, Steve and Tony are demons struggling to be good. Steve as an angel does something apparently bad acting on orders from God. The characters are all so complex, and yes, so is the Devil and so is God, both "good" and "bad". Everything is only good or bad as we perceive it down here but can be something very different in the grander scheme of things. I guess I find that the message compelling because it fits with my personal belief system, but it was a great note to end on.

Pace I'm not sure what the Greater Good is. Right now Sam seems like the universal chew toy. I think a better angle would be to convince Sam that he has a relationship with the Devil that noone else has and God needs him to continue being a reaper. I think it's ironic that so many people hated it when Sam stole a truck for use in a reap yet Steve breaks Sam's hand and it's ok. I think Steve is a jerk for what he did and they had better explain it if there is a third season.

I liked the episode, though the ending wasn't really what I was expecting from a season finale (it looked more like the episode BEFORE the season finale). I have to say though, that seeing the Devil so much in love with himself and Sam dressed exactly like him was really good... hehe.
And finally, Sock is coming back to his old self. I just wish he would hang out with Sam as much as before, weren't they like the best of the best friends? Now the Sock-Ben-Nina relationship seems like a weird "menage a trois", while Sam is left all alone (although now he's not really "alone" since Andi is now in the same situation as him).
Talking about Sam, he really must be the nicest guy in the history of mankind. The fact that he didn't take advantage of Andi, even after she ASKED HIM to do so, shows that there's a reason why God needs him to keep working for the Devil, but He seems to be a real meanie for sending Steve to break Sam's hand. Couldn't Him just break the damn mirrored table so the Devil could win WITHOUT hurting Sam?
Well, at least we are getting a really good Season 3 after this, especially if it's like 20 episodes long.

Yeah, if God wanted Sam to keep working for the Devil for some greater good purpose, maybe a better approach is have Steve explain to him what this purpose is (because I also want to know, ha). But I do like that, in the show, these huge, powerful forces like God and the Devil are such asses, and they insist on their "mysterious" ways. At the same time, I do hope that someday Sam stops getting totally screwed over.
