...uh oh! *hurriedly makes rock salt circle around self* I did attempt a BSG fanfic ... gosh... couple of years ago. It was sort of based on something that happened in TOS, and I thought it would be cool in the new series. Never got around to finishing it. Supernatural - is that a debate?? Did I miss something? Am I allowed to like Supernatural and Reaper at the same time? =D Noticed a few Chuck fans in here. I really like that show. Adam Baldwin always makes me laugh. He just has to stand there and breathe - and I will laugh. Wasn't keen on the 3D episode though. Then again, my glasses were old and had been used for Spy Kids 3... ... Smallville - now that is absolute trash. I never miss an episode. =D

Mine were from Shark Boy and Lava Girl. ;D They sucked, but I heard it was because of the red and blue specs, they don't work as well as the ones they gave out. But even still, I heard it wasn't impressive.

what??? how can it be 3D and not take red and blue? That's stupid! Arrrgh. Oh well. Probably have to wait two years before they release it here, with the proper 3D glasses.
TV at the moment is quite bushfire-oriented, which is just too upsetting to watch. So I think I might break out my new Moonlighting DVD (Season 1). Heheh... I just love how amusing that show is.

I'm starting to get pulled in by the idea of checking out Torchwood. I know eventually I'll gave and buy seasons one and two. *must...resist*

Thanks to kathyk for telling me about this. Keith Olberman's speech when he received a Human Rights Award for the comments he made months back in the wake of Proposition 8 (that I posted a few pages back). Long (13 mins) but worth it.
He apologizes for not making those comments before the election, btw.

Anyone giving Dollhouse a try? I have such mixed feelings. I'm definitely sticking with it, because I know Joss has more up his sleeve, but it's not quite there yet. Love Eliza's...appeal but her acting style isn't the broadest. Ditto Tahmoh Penikett, who does--bonus!--get shirtless. It has potential. My only fear is it's going to fragment instead of gel, and become like...the Bionic Woman. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I'm with you, not in love but sticking with it because I trust Joss. He did say later episodes are much better and funnier and that the first few are like separate pilots. I'm mostly concerned about the drop in ratings from this week to the next since a lot of people were disappointed.

Mmm... I'll admit that a good portion of my BSG TNG series devotion is all about ogling Jamie Bamber. Has anyone else seen him in the A&E Horation Hornblower movies? YouTube it now, he's adorable.

did nearly every show not randomly air this week?? Just feels like it, I guess. The only thing that seemed new this week was Knight Rider 2008 - which while I am amused by, is far from my favourite of shows (I'm a TOS purist... as well with BSG...).
Isn't Baltar (TNG) in Bridget Jones' Diary, or something weird like that? I think I started a mass giggle attack among my (sci-fi) friends when we were watching one time.

I'm starting to get pulled in by the idea of checking out Torchwood. I know eventually I'll gave and buy seasons one and two. *must...resist* Resist! Resist! The DVDs are 70 bucks a season, and really, BBC3 should pay *you* to watch them. I hear the second season was an improvement on the first, but the first was so eye-gougingly bad that that's not saying much. YMMV, of course, but I never got that. Even people that love it are prone to describe it as being like an x-files rip-off as penned by teenage boys for HBO and heavily inspired by scooby-do. this review of it had me laughing, back when it first came out: "...Cute and dark, sweet and sour, up and down. It's like tuning in to watch Deadwood, only to discover they've replaced Al Swearengen with the Honey Monster. Or sitting through a "re-imagining" of the Captain Birds Eye commercials, in which the white-haired skipper traverses the oceans in a raging thunderstorm, ruling his child-crew with an iron fist, tossing dissenters overboard into the rolling, foaming waves - but dances the hornpipe with a big cartoon haddock while the credits roll. Or stumbling across an episode of Scooby-Doo in which Shaggy skins up on camera. In fact Scooby-Doo (more than, say, the X-Files or Buffy) is probably the show most analogous to Torchwood, in that both series revolve around a fresh-faced team of meddling kids tackling an ever-shifting carnival of monsters in a world of childlike simplicity. The Torchwood gang even have their own version of The Mystery Machine, although theirs is a spectacularly ugly SUV with two daft strips of throbbing LED lights either side of the windscreen whose sole purpose is to make the entire vehicle look outrageously silly - they might as well have stuck a big inflatable dick on the bonnet, to be honest.... ...You half expect the Torchwood gang to drop their slacks and form a humping great daisy chain any moment."

Oh my. Well I've heard mixed reviews but nothing that scathing. I know the general consensus is that season two is better than season one. Still, yeah. Someone asked this question on LJ whether they would like Torchwood if they like DW and the responses were completely mixed. Half said they liked Torchwood better, half said DW was better. Some loved it, some hated it, there was really no telling. Oh, and on the price, I know they are expensive (I paid about $50 a season for DW) but amazon has them for about $45. Never pay retail.

Heh, funny stuff about Torchwood. Well I know some people love it! And RE: Jamie Bamber, oh he is darling in that HH clip. I keep promoting this everywhere, but BSG fans must watch this amazing sit-down interview with many of the cast from a few years ago. I think it's from between Season Two and Three, so doesn't spoil if you're that far along. Bamber is amazing...so much more appealing than as Lee, and i like Lee. Lots of other good bits, too, including a hilarious Tahmoh who is also very tender toward Grace Park. Yeah, heh, caz, someone posted about that at LJ with this pic:

I adore Jamie Bamber but I hate Lee Adama with a passion. I can't resist rolling my eyes everytime he's on screen you just know he's going to say something high and mighty.

I hated Lee when he first appeared, waaay back in the Pilot episode? But he won my heart in one scene, where he was confronting Richard Hatch, who was giving him a hard time about the name Apollo (oooh, meta!)--"What is that, god of the sun? Rides his golden chariot through the sky?" and Lee looks down and says, "It's just a stupid nickname." And conveys the full weight of his role, and the expectations of being Lee Adama. He was great in that whole episode, in fact.
Though I do agree, throughout the series I found myself yelling at the TV: "Come on Lee, get it together!" or "No, Lee, bad idea!" or "STFU!"
Man I'm feeling sad about this show ending, even though as I've said elsewhere, it'll also be a relief. I guess I'm all about the relief these days.

I'm afraid I could conceivably have no shows next year. BSG is ending, Dollhouse and Reaper could God forbid not get picked up. I would be devastated. Doctor Who won't return properly until Spring 2010 and my Doctor will be gone.

Doctor Who won't return properly until Spring 2010 and my Doctor will be gone. I'm holding out hope for Dollhouse, Reaper (actually thinking Reaper may have a better shot, but I guess I'd better see the second episode of Dhouse before I judge*). What about Life on Mars? I also have hopes for Castle, Nathan Fillion's new show, which looks about right for network (premieres Monday, March 9, 10 pm). And Aaron Douglas will be in a CBS series next Fall; The Bridge, a Canadian show. * By the way, pace, Dollhouse fic? ( dollhousefics)? I did one!

I so love Nathan in the promo, but I just can't watch a show like Castle, it's everything I hate about network TV. I hope it does well for Nathan though, he deserves more success.
And I forgot to mention Life on Mars as another show that won't be back next year. Nothing official yet, but it's the one I'm most certain will soon be cancelled.
You wrote Dollhouse fic? I have to see!

So I guess I'll keep giving Dollhouse another try. They're really building a backstory, or maybe understory, and it keeps getting more ominous. I hope they keep finding a good balance between the "adventure of the week" storyline and the larger story arcs. Which seems to be what I'm saying about all the shows I like.
Yeah, pace, I know what you mean about Castle, but I'm hoping Nathan's charm might make it worthwhile. I tend to feel the same about standard, or even good, network shows. Lots of friends recommend various (mostly) crime series, and I have watched a few that were a cut above, but not by much. Just can't get invested in the stereotypical characters (people even say, when recommending: "Oh he's the horndog, that one's the nerd, and she's the hi-tech goth girl"), the sexual innuendo and put-downs, and the contrived and often gory plots. Let's hope by the Fall some new shows will have emerged.
I may quit, or take a break from, my Monday class next Fall, so could get on the BBT and HIMYM bandwagon.

So, Privileged has its season finale this Tuesday...ya'll should watch. Currently rewatching Angel season 4 and I have a question: What the hell was Charisma Carpenter thinking when she cut her hair and dyed it blonde? You'd think after watching it a few times, that you'd get used to it, but no. And she's normally very, very hot... That's about my only complaint for the season..that and Jasmine and the departure of David Greenwalt...aside from that, its great. Howdy cko!

I never got through Angel. I watched all of season five and really loved it -- loved Spike, Fred, the whole W&H setting and the fun stories. Then I went back to season one and thought I'd watch from the beginning. I loved Doyle and once he died I found I just couldn't get through it anymore. I was never a fan of Angel himself and there was just nothing for me to attach to. I gave up towards the end of the first season, it became a chore.

Oh, yeah, I'm totally stalled on Buffy. Just can't start watching after The Body. I loaned my Angel dvds to a friend and am in no rush to get them back tho' i do get into Angel once I've watched a few. So, Buffy mid-Season 5; Angel Season 3. And a whole stack of other shows, too. Random, I agree about Charisma, she got stranger and stranger as Angel progressed. Sad, unless she really redeeems at the end.

The reviewer I quoted really really liked it. I myself was driven to self harm in the form of attempting to beat my own head in with a handy textbook or ruler (one of my roommates loved it). I would say try before you buy. I'm sure the eps can be found somewhere online.

One of my favorite hobbies from season 1 was to watch the behind the scenes or interview videos where Bamber's wearing his flight suit, talking in his British accent. I know it was hard enough to believe he and 'Adama' were related as it was, but I do sort of wish they'd let him pull a Baltar and have an inexplicable British accent for the character.
I always got angry at the writers-- I feel like at some point they just started tearing a really interesting character down out of laziness. Same thing happening to me (yes me, personally) on Heroes with the treatment they're giving Nathan. He was my all-time favorite character after the end of season 1 (I bawled all during that final scene with Peter) and now they're making him a bad guy for really poorly defined reasons.
