As someone who was somewhat disappointed with the CW’s treatment of REAPER, I’m curious as to what it was like to work on a show that had virtually zero network support or promotion. Missy Peregrym: Because we had such a good time making the show in Vancouver, it didn’t really matter. In fact, I was surprised we had as many fans as we did, as we didn’t really fit in with the kind of shows that were on the network at the time. I guess when you do this long enough, you realize you can be canceled at any time anyways, so you’re just grateful to get whatever you can out of it.

I enjoyed the show. It's nice to have Missy back on again. I think she did a good job in this first episode. Based on interviews that I've read she really enjoys doing it. Based on last night's ratings, she may get to continue. 2.0 in the 18-49 demo and 7.3 million viewers. ABC seems excited about it. They put out a press release stating that it was the highest rated summer premiere for one of their shows in six years. The real test will be next week to see how many of the viewers they retain. I would think that if they can hold 75% to 80% of that audience (1.5 to 1.6), they may get a go-ahead for 13 more.

I thought Missy was great, and she is most definitely the star of the show. Overall, I hope the show itself picks up a bit. It's a little...soft? for my taste, and the writing needs to improve, the characters are a tad cliched (which I know usually happens in a first episode, since they are trying to shape them so quickly), but I'd like to see more depth. Hopefully, over time. It's well-made, I will say that. I'll keep watching...

Review from The AV Club gets it about right, I think:
Quote:
In the pilot, we mostly spend time with main character Andy, played by Missy Peregrym, a winning screen presence who seems fated to either play roles well beneath her charisma or characters named Andy. Here, she plays both, and she's the series' Meredith Grey, the person who will be our view into the tough life of a rookie cop. She gets all of the bland narration this would suggest,...Andy, a second-generation cop who seems to know surprisingly little about police work after having grown up around it her whole life, just isn't going to let anybody else on this show get any plots.
For the most part, actually, that's true. This isn't a bad thing because, as mentioned, Peregrym is crazy-winning, a big, breakout TV star just looking for the right part.

Hey, a longtime fandom friend and blog poster, IrrationaliTV, has a fantastic idea for a new show starring Missy. Read about it here! Fun! She's been twittering that she thinks Missy really elevates Rookie Blue...

Well, it looks like at least one of the ex-cast members may have landed on a show which will be renewed. From TV By The Numbers:
Exhibiting strong retention of its week-ago series debut, ABC’s freshman series “Rookie Blue” finished in virtual-tie for first place with CBS in the 9 o’clock hour among Total Viewers (6.8 million vs. 6.9 million) and ran a strong second to Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” among Adults 18-49 (1.8/6 vs. 2.0/7). The new ABC drama finished No. 1 in its time slot with Adults 25-54 (2.4/7) and Men 25-54 (2.0/6).
◦“Rookie Blue” substantially boosted the hour year to year for ABC in Total Viewers (+4.6 million – 6.8 million vs. 2.2 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+200% – 1.8/6 vs. 0.6/2). ◦In addition to holding nearly all of its overall premiere audience in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (94%/95%), “Rookie Blue” was up over its week-earlier debut among AD18-34, W18-34, M18-34 and W18-49.

Finally managed to see the show and i must say i'm not impressed. The idea of the rookie cop is interesting but everything else is a little weak, save Missy, who actually did a good job so far. I'll grant it a few more eps, that's all.

Thanks for the link, wd, I saw this on Twitter but didn't get the confirmation. Good for Missy! Though to be honest I'm a little surprised they'd land on this so quickly...

Actually, the ratings in Canada have been very very good. They have averaged nearly 1.8 million for the three weeks. This would rate the show between 10th and 15th in their weekly ratings during the regular season. The Pilot was the number one rated show (excluding soccer coverage) that week and I think the second week it was #2 or #3 (again excluding soccer). So, no matter what ABC did, I think it was a shoe-in for renewal in Canada. The US ratings have ranged from 6.4 to 7.5 million per week. This compares to "The Good Guys" best rating of 4.98 million, for their Pilot. Most of the summer replacement shows have been in the 3 to 4 million total audience range. The demo at 1.5 to 1.9 compares to most of the summer shows at 1.3 or less. Those numbers, plus, per TV by the Numbers' comment that ABC is only paying $350,000 for each episode (vs $1.5 million for a regular hour long drama) make it very profitable deal for ABC. At 6.5 million viewers for 1/4th the cost, one could argue that they are drawing the equivalent of 26 million viewers (based on cost per viewer).

Did anyone catch Missy on the George Lopez show tonight? I thought she was very good. Maybe the most relaxed and funny that I've seen her on a talk show yet.

I actually like Rookie Blue! Yeah, the first couple of episodes were weak, but it's been getting increasingly better. I'm surprised I enjoy it at all, since I normally don't like cop shows, but it's turned out to be a nice way to waste an hour of my summer every week!

Just saw an ad for Rookie Blue, guess it's coming back as another midseason replacement, but weird, the promo did not feature Missy, in fact I don't think I saw her at all. She is in it, of course....
They seem to be playing up the "hot and sexy" angle.

I remember really enjoying the first season of this show, but haven't been able to keep up with it since then. *shameface* Still, hurray for Missy! 'Bout time she's in a show that lasts. (Along with Reaper, I loved her in Life As We Know It, which got cancelled even faster, sigh.)
